Hingeley records big double victory at the famous Brands Hatch

-

SPEED king Ben Hingeley took a double victory at Brands Hatch to move into the Formula Jedi 2015 championship lead at the weekend, but only after some close racing with title rivals Lee Morgan and Michael Watton.

Hingeley, from Glascoed near Abergele, won the opening encounter, after an intense battle with Morgan which lasted for much of the race.

Morgan got the jump at the start and led for the majority, defending well, until back markers came into play.

As the pair negotiated some of the slower cars Hingeley made his move, getting a tow from Morgan and passing around the outside at Paddock Hill Bend and taking the lead, which he held to the finish.

The following day saw heavy rain but Hingeley went out and put the car on pole and after complet- ing only five laps. He then sat in the pits for 15 minutes, saving tyres.

At the start of race two, pole sitter Hingeley again lost ground at the start as Watton this time took the lead. In the opening lap Hingeley quickly moved passed Morgan and Butcher and set after leader Watton.

Morgan went with him and on lap eight both drivers got past the leader. Watton dropped off the pace as the leading pair traded fastest laps, and as backmarkers came into the equation Hingeley managed to pull out a small gap at the front, which he held until the chequered flag.

This now puts Hingeley seven points clear in the championship ahead of the next round at Donnington Park on September 12 and 13.
