The Idaho Civil War Round Table invites you  to a season finale viewing party  for  the PBS Civil War series "MERCY STREET"  episode six: "The Diabolical Plot" .

 Warning: Possible spoiler alert!

All of the loose ends will be tied up in a neat little bundle as the first mini-season of "Mercy Street" comes to a breathtaking end this weekend. I've known about the ending for the last three weeks, but kept a lid on the plot twists and turns as a courtesy to PBS and Idaho Public Television and to you, my fellow viewers. My own final blog postings on "Mercy Street" on Monday, February 22 and Tuesday, February 23  will deliver my PM (post mortem) on the entire series, where final grades will be given for several categories including the quality of the scriptwriting, use of tried and true story arcs, acting, overemployment of dramatic devices, writing tropes and attempts at achieving historical accuracy.

Here are clues to the finale's neat endings:
  • Another secondary character and villain bites the dust as a little Civil War justice is meted out to him.
  • A wayward son finds a way to hold his endangered family together.
  • A supposedly uber-patriotic undercover agent makes a life-saving decision when he discovers true love and becomes a Benedict Arnold to his own cause.
  • A downtrodden woman's life takes a turn for the better - with help from her friends.

Note: the evaluation may be purely academic, if "Mercy Street" will not be renewed for a second season...which has not yet been determined at press time.
