Smithsonian American Art Museum Fellows

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is one of the nation’s leading centers for the study of American art. The museum offers academic opportunities for scholars at the graduate level and above, research opportunities for visiting scholars, and professional museum training for college seniors and graduate students.

Fellowships

Amelia Goerlitz, Fellowship and Academic Programs Manager

The museum supports pre- and postdoctoral scholars in residence to conduct research on topics in American art and visual culture. The museum’s Fellowship Office is a suite with sixteen workstations and an informal meeting space dedicated to accommodating our short- and long-term visiting scholars who have access to the museum’s library and other research resources. Scholars are selected in an annual competition administered by the museum and the Smithsonian’s Office of Fellowships.
