Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art
The Smithsonian American Art Museum established the Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art in 2004 to present new insights in American art from the perspectives of the finest artists, authors, critics, and scholars. This annual series is made possible by the generosity of Clarice Smith.
James Dicke Contemporary Artist Lecture
A new annual lecture inaugurated in 2013, the James Dicke Contemporary Artist Lecture presents a leading contemporary artist in American art. The lecture is presented in honor of former Commission Chair James Dicke II.
Charles C. Eldredge Prize Lecture
Each fall, the museum hosts a lecture by the winner of The Charles C. Eldredge Prize for outstanding scholarship in the field of American art. The award is given to the author of a recent book-length publication that provides new insight into works of art, the artists who made them, or aspects of history and theory that enrich our understanding of America’s artistic heritage.
