A British ex-pat in Dubai who went to police to report that she had been gang raped by three men was arrested because she had been drinking alcohol, according to British reports.

The 28-year-old woman, who was not identified, admitted to Dubai police that she was drinking in the hours before the July attack and was arrested and fined for boozing without a license, The Sun reported.

Strict Islamic laws in the United Arab Emirates forbid ex-pats from drinking alcohol without a pass from the government.

Two of the woman’s alleged attackers, described as Iranian men, are now on trial in Dubai, The Sun reported. The third man was at-large.

During testimony, the woman said she was kidnapped from a taxi on July 6 by three men who told her driver they were her friends.

The woman had been drinking at a bar in Dubai and was drunk when she left in the cab at around 3 a.m., the Daily Mail reported.

The men took her to an apartment in Naif, a seedy district, and took turns raping her, while one of them videotaped the attack, she told the court.

“I begged them to let me go but they didn’t and were laughing at me,” the woman testified, according to The Sun.

“They ignored my pleas and laughed at me, speaking to each other in broken English.”

The attackers eventually fled, leaving the woman dazed and battered on a mattress.

She took a cab to her apartment and told her roommate she had been raped, according to the Mail.

The 26-year-old roommate went with her to police, where the alleged victim was arrested and later fined around $200 during separate proceedings.

The defendants’ lawyer, Saeed al Gilani, told the Daily Mail the woman made up the story and had seen “too many action movies.”

“She has a boyfriend who threw her out of his flat when he heard she’d had a relationship with the defendants,” he said. “She then went to police and claimed she was raped.”

The two Iranian men have pleaded not guilty to the attack, according to the reports.
