Chapman bursts through for 70-yard Akron TD

Akron quarterback Tra'Von Chapman goes straight through the Miami (Ohio) defense and scores the 70-yard touchdown to give the Zips a 7-3 lead.

AKRON, Ohio -- Tra'Von Chapman threw three touchdowns passes and ran 70 yards for another to lead Akron to a 35-13 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.

Noah Wezensky threw a 6-yard pass TD to Ryan Smith to get the Redhawks (0-6, 0-2 Mid-American) within 21-13, but his fumble late in the third quarter and interception early in the fourth led to two touchdowns for the Zips (4-2, 2-0).

Chapman scored on a 70-yard keeper and threw TD passes to Austin Wolf and JoJo Natson for a 21-3 halftime lead. After Wezensky fumbled at the Miami 16, Mykel Traylor-Bennett scored from the 1 and Chapman added another TD pass to Natson after Wezensky was intercepted at the Redhawks 32.

Chapman made his second straight start in place of injured Thomas Woodson.

This was Wezensky's first career start after the Redhawks lost three quarterbacks to injuries in spring and fall camps and in last week's loss to Ohio.
