Boston Bruins Coach Joe Sacco on Trent Frederic trade amid team’s struggles
Boston Bruins coach Joe Sacco shed light on the trade that sent forward Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers. Speaking to the media after Wednesday's team practice, Sacco addressed questions about the move and provided further insight into the decision.
"He took it okay," Sacco said. "He's a Bruin, was a Bruin for a long time. And I think anytime you get traded for the first time, it's a bit of a surprise or-slash-shock. Like I said last night, I really enjoyed my time with Freddy when he was here. He's a great young kid, a great young man. I wish him the best over in Edmonton."
Trent Frederic had been sidelined for the Bruins' last three games due to an upper-body injury before being traded on Tuesday. His departure came just ahead of the team’s 6-3 defeat against the Nashville Predators. With this loss, Boston has now managed only one victory in its last eight outings.
"We didn't execute that well tonight," Sacco said after the game via NHL.com. "I mean, when you look at some of the plays that we made with the puck, like I said before, I just think that ... areas we expect to be better in, we weren't."
Ryan O'Reilly delivered an impressive performance with two goals and an assist, while Steven Stamkos contributed with a goal and two assists. The Predators saw scoring efforts from Jonathan Marchessault, Tommy Novak, and Mark Jankowski. On the Bruins' side, Charlie Coyle, Jordan Oesterle, and Morgan Geekie found the back of the net.
Boston Bruins trade Trent Frederic to Oilers in Three-Team deal
Trent Frederic tallied 15 points across 57 games for the Bruins this season before being dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-team trade. As part of the deal, Bruins retained 50% of his salary and sent him to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Petr Hauser. The Devils then covered the remaining 50% of his salary and moved him to the Oilers, receiving forward Shane Lachance in return.
On Wednesday, Sacco was asked whether Frederic’s departure had impacted the team’s morale. The trade came as Frederic was in the final year of his two-year, $4.6 million contract with the Bruins.
“It's hard for me to say that. Everyone's a human being in our room and you see a teammate that gets traded. He's a good character guy, but we all know that that's the business side of things too,” Sacco said. (via: Sportskeeda)
