MUMBAI: Police have ramped up security across the city, especially at places of worship that witness high footfalls, after the Intelligence Bureau warned of a possible terror attack. "We have been instructed to conduct mock drills in crowded areas and religious places. All deputy commissioners of police are actively monitoring the security in their respective jurisdictions," said a senior police officer.

On Friday, there was heavy police presence in the bustling Crawford Market area. While police described the operation as a security drill, they withheld further details. "With upcoming festivals and assembly elections, we are conducting security drills at Crawford Market and other key locations across the city," the officer said. In Chembur, a senior police officer inspected a temple's security arrangements, while in Matunga, a temple was closed for devotees following a police inspection in the morning.
