Did Rep. LaMonica McIver Assault Enforcement Officer At Delaney Hall? Video Goes Viral

A video of Rep. LaMonica McIver from the protest at Delaney Hall has gone viral which she can allegedly be seen assaulting an enforcement officer. During the protest, the governor of Newark, Ras Baraka, was arrested on charges of trespassing. In the viral video, McIver can be seen allegedly assaulting one of the enforcement officers at the prison as she, Baraka, and the group of protestors were trying to get inside the newly opened detention center.

Baraka, LaMonica McIver, and a group of protestors were at the detention facility for an inspection when they clashed with law enforcement. NJ Attorney General Alina Habba said that Baraka has been charged with trespassing.

"The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon," Habba's office said. "He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW."

Social media erupted after the video of LaMonica McIver allegedly assaulting the enforcement officer, with pro-Trump influencers calling it an act of insurrection. So much so, that 'insurrection' started trending on X in the United States.

"Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver (in the red jacket) is literally throwing punches at ICE officers outside a holding facility," wrote a far right account with more than 1 million followers.

"INSURRECTION ALERT! On May 9th, Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver (red jacket) led a lawless mob, storming NJ’s ICE facility & assaulting cops—violating 18 U.S. Code § 111!" wrote another.

LaMonica McIver is a Democratic US Representative for New Jersey's 10th Congressional District, having been sworn in on September 23, 2024, following a special election to succeed the late Donald Payne Jr. She is the first Black woman and the youngest person ever elected to represent New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives
