Moment Pirates Fan Falls 20 Feet From Stand At Game Against Cubs Goes Viral | Video

Despite a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Pirates' evening on Wednesday was overshadowed by a tragic incident. A fan, who was cheering the Pirates from the stands at the PNC Park, fell from the right field bleachers above the 21-foot Clemente Wall and was critically injured. The shocking moment was captured on camera by others at the PNC Park and went viral on social media.

EMS, police, and trainers immediately attended to the fan who fell on the warning track. He was later placed on a stretcher and carted off the field. Pittsburgh Public Safety said that the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition. As of this writing, the injured fan has not been identified.

Later, the Pittsburgh Public Safety provided an update on the incident, stating that it is being considered accidental.

The Pittsburgh Pirates edged out the Chicago Cubs 4–3 on Wednesday night at PNC Park, thanks to a clutch two-run double by Andrew McCutchen in the seventh inning. The tragic incident happened as McCutchen hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Pirates up 4-3.

Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting reacted to the incident, issuing a statement.

"We are all deeply saddened and truly heartbroken after the terrible accident that occurred last night. It was one of the most difficult moments many of us have ever experienced. We are devastated. Pirates baseball is a community, and our fans are like family.

"In times like these, we must come together, support one another, and keep him and his loved ones in our prayers. We also want to thank and appreciate the efforts of the first responders who rushed to his attention and provided him with compassionate care."
