This year's Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM) was another record-breaker. We processed a total volume of $43 billion across the weekend (up 27% vs. last year), with peak demand hitting 199,000 transactions per minute, all while maintaining 99.9999+% uptime. Beyond the surge, this performance data revealed critical shifts in international consumer behavior. For example, transaction volume uplift compared to a typical Friday was highest in markets like Denmark (6.1x) and Spain (4.47x), demonstrating that global spending is rapidly evolving. This week, Adyen joined the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). As AI agents move from experimentation into real commerce, the underlying infrastructure matters more than ever. For merchants, agent-initiated transactions need to be reliable, interoperable, and able to integrate into existing operations without creating new complexity. Our decision to join reflects what we hear directly from merchants: excitement about the potential of agentic commerce, alongside the need for clarity, control, and trusted infrastructure as this new channel develops.
