Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments City of Lies is the only new book added to my TBR but I figured I'd give it a shot. The rest were already in the pile and I figured I'd do them with ya'll.

Don't bother trying to recruit me for the Team Challenge. You can't make me! The scoring for that challenge makes my eyes bleed and I like math & organizing. =P

Yes, really beautiful! :) Aaaaand it's great for tracking all your reads

message 19: by Bea (new)

Bea | 2050 comments Yay, a new tracker to stalk! :)

Your reading experiment sounds really interesting! I wouldn't have thought it possible to 'read' two books at the same time! I have to admit that I find it very hard to concentrate on audiobooks.
RE audiobooks: Funny coincidence, I just watched a video today on voice-overs and technology settings for blind people and the girl in the video listened to voice-overs that seemed ridiculously fast to me, I couldn't understand a single word, but she said it is actually relatively slow for blind people standards. So apparently it's really just a matter of getting used to it :)

message 20: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments @Bea - That's really cool! Yes. I believe that how you define "normal" and what you expect from yourself is a big part of what you do on a regular basis. All I did was take stuff I already do and then work on it so I can do it consciously. I can do a lot without thinking about it step by step. It's some work to get me to do it on purpose whenever I want to vs just going into a mode because I expect myself to do it. If that makes sense.

I went to Barnes & Nobles to pick up a few books in print. I'm pretty excited for the Buddy Reads in October & all the audiobooks I just got last night. Between Audible, stuff on Kindle Unlimited, my library and personal library - I really should not buy new books. LOL

message 21: by Bea (new)

Bea | 2050 comments It's great you are able to improve what you're doing like that!

'I really should not buy new books'. Every book lovers mantra lol

Yes, October has some nice BRs. I want to do Traitor's Blade as well and maybe Scourge of the Betrayer if I manage to find the time :)

Anyone want to Buddy Read this book?

It's an interactive novel and comes with materials inserted between the pages.

The Acts of Caine

There are holes in this series. Yup. But man is the writing fraught with images and emotions that are utterly stark, brazen and absolute drive.

Enjoy watching the season. I'm due for a rewatch too.

The show is great! Excellent Urban Fantasy. I can't wait for S2 to come out.

This is one of the covers you can never read in public 😂

Also, that moment when you find BRs you have to do (->Season of Storms) on somebody else's tracker because your own tracker isn't up to date 😅

message 34: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments It's like we're watching out for each other! =D

I'm trying to keep my BR's on a manageable level. I can handle about 10 a month without a problem as long as the books stay within the mode I want to read.

My reading pace was totally derailed by getting sucked back into watching TV Shows & Movies on Netflix/Net. I'm starting to get antsy watching the shows though so I'll be back to books soon.

Bookburners Season 2, Episode 8 by Brian Slattery
A chorus of notes scoured the air. Asanti turned toward their source. From the faraway sphere, a phalanx of seven knights had issued, clad in armor and riding beasts with leathery wings and long necks that ended in faces that looked like owls. Three of the knights had long bugles that they swapped out for pikes to match the other four. They moved as if this place were filled with only air, less than air. They moved like falcons.

The latest illustration is cute! Is it from an anime/manga, or an original design?

message 42: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I'm not posting any original art. I haven't drawn in a while. This is from a manga. I prefer the manga drawings or Deviant Art anime style drawings to post. =D

message 43: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Oh, I meant an original design as in 'not taken from a manga' but not necessarily drawn by you; I didn't even know that you draw. It's super cool though! I couldn't draw anything to save my life :p

I like browsing the Fantasy & Anime categories of Wallpapers Abyss. :)

message 44: by Soo (last edited Nov 07, 2018 06:35AM) (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Ooo that one's new for me. I like it! I've just been using google with whatever type of drawing I want to post. =D

It's great for Fantasy/SF stuff but not entirely useful for finding stuff with characters reading. lol

message 45: by Virginie (last edited Nov 07, 2018 07:11AM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Yup. I've never seen a single library/character reading on that website haha.

I really like it too :) I have a non-existent imagination (I can never picture landscapes or characters even with a lenghty description haha) so I love looking at those images!

Virginie | 6109 comments Little gift for you!

message 47: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Thanks! =D

message 48: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments

I loved S1 of How to Get Away With Murder. S2 was weird and S3 is a mess of too many relationships but I have to say that the series is rather excellent at showing various forms of toxic & healthy relationships. And how that can come from the same person.

It made me think about intimacy & how easily everyone labels it as sex being a thing that either matters or doesn't. Like the value of an act can be tied up easily in a neat bow and left without any complications. The act of tying a knot is a matter of something complex made simple.

Intimacy is not just about the sexual act. It's also about being vulnerable, taking chances on connecting emotionally and a host of other things.

Good stuff to think about. =D
