Three Word Review: Love, Duty, What-If?
And here are my Spoilers for Rivals: (specifically the ending, so don't read until you're finished!!!)(view spoiler)[ WHAT. WAS. THAT. ENDING??? DAPHNE is pretending to be preggers, Sam just ran off to Hawaii, BEATRICE is in the ICU, and Jeff just got sworn in as Acting King????? like .... what????? I kind of guessed the Daphne thing (like 10 seconds before Jeff got what she was saying), and Sam's story actually makes sense, but Beatrice????!?!?!?!?! I am so worried for my Queen!!! When Teddy left, I thought his plane would crash or something would happen once he got to Nantucket, but I did not think anything would happen to Bee!!! (hide spoiler)]
I'll probably come back and have more to say later, but for now just know that I am waiting for book four VERY IMPATIENTLY and also that I LOVED this book!!!

Initial Thoughts: WOW. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book so much!!! Ellen's autism reminded me a lot of my own, and I loved that she stimmed!!! Seriously, I cannot tell you how many passages I highlighted because it felt like I was reading a description of my own life. I love it.
ALSO! The queer rep in here was just *chef's kiss!* It's beautiful, and wonderful, and I'm just so happy that middle grade books are like this now. I love it!
second read: even knowing what was going to happen, I absolutely LOVED this book! In addition to Marit Weisenberg, NetGalley, and Emily Day at Macmillsecond read: even knowing what was going to happen, I absolutely LOVED this book! In addition to Marit Weisenberg, NetGalley, and Emily Day at Macmillan, I also want to shout out Brittany Pressley who did a FANTASTIC job narrating this! Her voice was perfect for Poppy!
first read: tl;dr: an absolutely AMAZING YA thriller that is somehow also a perfect YA contemporary. five out of five stars, DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU READ THIS ASAP!!!!!
OH MY GOD THIS WAS SO GOOD BUT ALSO I CAN'T STOP CRYING!?!?
I love Poppy SO MUCH and ALL of the characters are so well developed and three dimensional and REAL. There was never a point where I wondered why they did things because... everything made sense?
AND THAT ENDING. OH MY GOD. SO MUCH CRYING. but also I wanted a little more for when (view spoiler)[ Poppy leaves at the end. Like, does her grandmother believe her? Does she move in with Harry and his mom? WHAT DOES HARRY'S MOM THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING?! WILL SHE AND ALIX BECOME BFFS? (hide spoiler)] I JUST HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!
full review to come (probably) closer to the pub date on kaitplusbooks.com!

do you like stories about queer nerds? do fun arguments about Doctor Who and Criminal Minds sound like a good way to flirt? do you have a mighty need do you like stories about queer nerds? do fun arguments about Doctor Who and Criminal Minds sound like a good way to flirt? do you have a mighty need for more books about marching band or asexual characters?
but for now just know that this is one of my most FAVORITE BOOKS EVER AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!
I cried happy tears, sad tears, and more happy tears. I saw characters who reminded me so much of myself, and I also saw characters who were nothing like me.
perfectly queer, delightfully nerdy, and everything I've ever wanted in a book. read this as soon as you can!

this book is brilliant and I absolutely love it, but I want to focus on how Jilly Bond and Imogen Wilde narrated it because that was just *chef's kissthis book is brilliant and I absolutely love it, but I want to focus on how Jilly Bond and Imogen Wilde narrated it because that was just *chef's kiss*!
so in A History of What Comes Next, Sara is the mother and Mia is the daughter and in this one, Mia is the mother and Lola is the daughter. and this is where the brilliance comes in. because the voice of adult Mia is the same voice as adult Sara, but the voice of teen Lola is DIFFERENT than the voice of teen Mia. and that one small detail adds a whole new layer to the story and I just really, really loved it!!!!
