And I didn't know that Lucy Connors is a pseudonym for Alyssa Day. I haven't read any of her other books, but I really liked this one. I liked the writing and the idea for this book. I love retellings and I especially love when an author takes a classic and breathes new life into it.
I loved the setting! A small town in Kentucky, where the MC can go for a ride on her horse and take in a view of the moutains. Makes me want to go there and see it for myself!
There was a lot of drama, but really you should expect that given the likeness this story has to Romeo & Juliet or the Hatfields & McCoy's. I loved the gritty and rough parts of the story. Drugs, shady dealings and a crazy family fued! Dangerous bad boy Micky and his brothers next to sweet and innocent Victoria.
I cannot wait for the sequel! I need it now! Makes me wonder if authors sit back and have smile an evil grin after leaving a book with a cliffhanger like this knowing what it does to us readers! ...more

I'm so blow away by the events that happened in the story that I'm still reeling! Again with the twists and turns, surprises around every corner, not to mention the last couple of chapters had me on the edge of my seat I was practically standing from the anticipation.
The triangle! I was Team Jeb from the beginning, but seeing more of Morpheus, getting to know him better and his softer side...well, now I'm torn. Jeb is such a sweet guy, charming and funny, plus Alyssa knows where she stands with him. There's no guessing, no games. But with Morpheus, he's infuriating and enchanting at the same time. He draws you in and you just want to get lost in his gaze and forget everything else...until he says or does something that makes you want to smack him!
Just as captivating and fascinating, creepy and weird as Splintered. But, I did miss the nonsense talk and riddles like in book 1. I hope there will more of that in Ensnared and I can only imagaine what trouble Alyssa and whoever tags along will get themselves into....more

Wolf is my favorite so far in the Lunar Chronicles series and I loved getting his perspective on how he and his pack, how all the Queen's soilders were created.
Also it reminded me of how manipulative the Queen, her guards and her thaumaturges could be. I cannot wait for Cress to be released! I love Meyer's writing! Her storytelling is amazing!...more

I loved that it was dark and seductive, it lured me in from page one! It wasn't predictable at all and my mind is still reeling from the roller coaster ride the story took me on. All the twists and turns and loop-de-loops, it sent my heart a flutter with Jeb and Morpheus...2 bad boys with their sights set on 1 lovely Alyssa with enough snark and sass no to mention brains to carry her through the rough spots.
I loved the nonsense talk and riddles like from the Disney version. I loved that the scenes I know so well from watching it with my kids were so twisted into something new and fresh, but very creepy and ghoulish and awesome!!! I love retellings, I can't get enough of them. I say it all the time, but seriously this one is for sure a keeper!! :)...more

Fairy tale retellings are my absolute favorite books to read and I loved Beastly and Bewitching: The Kendra Chronicles from this author.
But I just didn't get it. I didn't connect with the characters and I didn't like the 'mystery' part of the plot and (view spoiler)[ the 'enchanted drug ring' (hide spoiler)]. It just felt really strange and off-kilter.

RobeWuthering Hearts was a very cute and very sweet retelling of Wuthering Heights. Emily wants play Cathy to Robert's Heathcliff in the school play. Robert is new to her school and no one knows what his story is. He is Heathcliff to a tee, dark, brooding, aloof and then he moves in with Emily and her family, he is charming to her until he gets to school and his personality has flipped and he is back to brooding and standoffish. She is falling for Charming Robert even thought Miserable Robert showed up sometimes. I liked the ending, like I said very cute and sweet, perfect for a young girl starting out reading romance novels....more

Captain Thorne was hilarious, Wolf was sweet and Kai...well I missed Kai, he wasn't in it very much and I missed him and Cinder's banter and conversation.
The story had so many layers and revelations and the last 200 pages flew so fast that my mind was just blown away! Marissa Meyer is a genius!!! I love retellings, but this series is just phenomenal and I really, really, REALLY need the next book!!! Like right now, I would give my right arm to have it this very second!!...more

I loved the concept of a sci-fi retelling and Cinderella being a cyborg, Meyer is BRILLIANT!!!!! Cinder's character is snarky and funny and so believabble, I loved how she teased Kai all the time, they make a cute couple. Queen Levana is an insufferable bully and just down right evil and I can't wait for Cinder to put her in her place.
I have to say I could not stop thinking about this book and what was going to happen when I wasn't reading it, it was on my mind all the time. I loved how Meyer made the story her own and it was so entertaining to read...not about the plague part and everything dealing with that of course...to see Cinder's journey on how she met the prince and then how she would finally make her way to the ball...cause Cinderella always goes to the ball no doubt about that. Feb 2013 is that far off thank goodness. ...more

OK, so the book is from Kendra's POV most of the time because it's divided. First Kendra tells how she became a witch, it's a retelling of Hanzel and OK, so the book is from Kendra's POV most of the time because it's divided. First Kendra tells how she became a witch, it's a retelling of Hanzel and Gretel. Then the other stories from her POV are retellings also one is Little Mermaid and the other one is kind of spoiler so I won't let that out of the bag. Then there is the story of Emma and Lisett, Emma is a nice, smart girl and Lisett, well she is a piece of work. She is bitter, mean and spiteful.
I really liked all the stories, I like the way Flinn takes fair tales you grow up listening to as a kid and twists it and makes it her own, though at one point when reading I thought to myself that it maybe I didn't like it so much because of they way the story was going (view spoiler)[Warner and Lisett were making out and he calls her Emma and she gets mad, he says sorry and they go back to making out. Emma sees all of this on Kendra's magic mirror and thinks Warner still loves her (hide spoiler)]. And yes I cried...I know I'm a big baby...cause I really attached to the characters and something happens at the end...no spoils...that I didn't see coming and it was really sad. I loved Bizzy, she sure is a spitfire for a grandma and funny loved her "pearls of wisdom". I hope there is going to be another one that would be really awesome!...more

Ziegler didn't follow the book to the letter, which is fine that she did her version of it, I just found it hard to pick out who the characters were supposed to be.
Gabby and Daphne are very very different in their personalities, of course and as they should be. They are like polar opposites, Daphne is a free spirit, daydreaming all the time. She just got a little carried away with her feelings (or a lot carried away) for Luke, I think they were getting in the way and clouding her judgment, but I do have to say that at least she knew what she wanted when it came to sex and wasn't going to give in to the peer pressure she was surrounded with at school, from the boys she dated to the girls willing to do anything with the boys they were seeing at the time without a care for their moral compass.
Gabby was just angry and cynical and too young to be as jaded as she was. She is a strong character but he didn't want to depend on anyone except maybe Mule her best friend and only then she wanted to complain about her life. In both girls there was some growth so I was glad to that. And I thought that she was really hard on Daphne quite a lot. I did tear up a little when Gabby confronted her dad about his issues but I was glad to see in the end that the mom and dad did some growing up of their own.
I was happy with the ending, it all turned out alright, and then writing was good, I liked Ziegler's descriptions of Daphne and Gabby feelings and Prentiss' too. I did think that Prentiss seemed more like Mr. Darcy than Edward Farris though. It was a cute book and some parts were really funny, I love retellings in a modern setting especially Jane Austen novels, so yeah I liked Sass & Serendipity....more

I loved the way the Angelini did the re-telling, how she fused and blended together the story of the Trojan War and Lucas and Helen's story! It was seamless and beautiful! I loved everything about it! Especially toward the end when it really started to hit the fan and right before the POV would change something HUGE would happen and I was on the edge of my seat the last 3 chapters wondering what was going to happen next!

I don't really know the Again I wish we could give half or quarter stars, I'm on the fence with this one, so more than 3 stars but not quite 4 stars. I don't really know the story of the Theseus and the minotaur just that he was in the labyrinth with a ball of yarn so he could find his way out and that there was a minotaur there with him. So all though I don't know the story I still liked this version, the writing was good and it wasn't boring, the only thing I didn't like was there was not enough romance, that's just me though, the story was still good. The ending was ok and Barrett did a good job making the evil person deceitful and manipulative, I thought it was pretty good. ...more

I liked the placement of the characters; Lizzie's best friend was Jane and Lydia is Jane's sister, Wick is townie and another character who I won't name (trying to do a spoiler free review here) that has an important role in the whole scheme of things.
Lizzie was I thought a little harsh on poor Darcy at first, but after seeing the grief she received from the stereotypical mean girl population at Longbourn Academy, I could see where she would have put up her shield and her tounge as sharp as a sword. But Darcy, sweet, darling Darcy just keep trying of course and good thing to for we all know the ending of this happy tale, it's the bumpy road it takes to get there, that's where it happens that they realize their mistakes and get past their insecurities and that is what makes this a good read. One of the parts I liked best (better actually than the orignal) was at the end between Wick and Lizzie, it was awesome!!!...more
