"He was the epitome of the perfect calm, right before the most dangerous storm." -Bailey
I knew there was something about Nate DeLuca that I liked. In Combative we are somewhat introduced to him. In Redemptive we get to piece together some things we could of never known with the little bit of breadcrumbs McLean gave us initially in book 1.
“So you are afraid of me?” he asked. “Yes. No. Maybe.” The corners of his mouth lifted and he bit down on his bottom lip, trying to cover his smile. But he was too late, I'd already succumbed to the full effect of it.
Bailey becomes and I almost hate to say this but she falls prey to circumstances. I'm not sure what she could of done to prevent it or change it. Things just happened so freaking fast at first that even the reader won't expect it.
"I feel your pain. I live your fear." -Bailey
Just flip me upside down and turn me all around why don't you.
What readers should know Combative is a mystery in theme, in plot and even in its characters. It has the reader constantly questioning things. Who, what, where, when, why and how. Total mystery. Total intrigue. Redemptive is more of a mind catcher...meaning the story unfolds and you just get CAUGHT UP in it without consequence. Your flipping the page with one question. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? So yeah, total mind catcher. Redemptive will take hold of you, grip you up then against your will release you, with no idea of where to go from here.
Everything with these two(Nate & Bailey) is at an escalated level. Their attraction, their affection, their love, what brings them together, what fights to keep them apart, their will to survive is all at an escalation throughout the entire book. The whole connection is just WHOA. Alright, alright I gotta shut it down cause I talk too much.
My thoughts I was not expecting this at all. And there is not much you can say without giving too much away. The book starts and ends on two distinct separate levels of desperation. In fact totally desperate, it's palpable and it will cling to you.
The writing Jay McLean has a strong hand when it comes to capturing moments and making those moments count for the characters. In turn these moments are impactful for the readers. I looooove this about her writing.

That was me. Jaded, but real. -Sheldon
Now, if you are familiar with the series you know that Sheldon was...pretty much a mean girl in high school. If you were not part of her clique then good riddance.
In book #3 of the Jaded series Jaden, Sheldon is on a mission... After being released from police custody Sheldon finds herself face to face with the last person on earth she ever expected to see let alone to help her. Once she sees that she will not be given much of a choice in the matter Sheldon decides to take a firm stand on who will be her main support team. Bryce and Corrigan. Their reunion is great then awkward due to a few things that went down in book two between the three.
Soon, Sheldon along with Bryce, Corrigan and surprisingly Denton go after the person who has framed Sheldon for murder. In the midst of all of this there is a HUGE elephant in the room...
“Stop, Corrigan. She loves both of us. You might only see how she feels about me, but I see how she feels about you. Whoever she chooses is the one she can’t be without, but she loves both of us.” -Bryce
Both Bryce and Corrigan are in love with her. A choice must be made and one guy will have a broken heart. Which guy will Sheldon choose...well you gotta read to find out.
Packed with a twist after twist Jaden will throw readers for a loop with triple the surprises. Wait. Did I count that right? One...two..three. Yup, triple the surprises.
My Thoughts Excuse this jumbled review of me rambling. I can't really say much without saying too much you feel me. The writing, now that's easy to talk about, Tijan has a formula, it works and I love it! Her heroines are not weak though often they are placed in terrible situations. Her leading females fight and endure. Her males are a-holes but readers love them regardless. Hmm, interesting enough after reading this I had an overwhelming desire to re-read another series by her, Fallen Crest High.
Considered possibly spoiler-ish so READER BEWARE The love triangle story caught me off guard..only because I never really care who the chick ends up with but this shocked me because when she chose..I realized I did too and it was not her choice this hurt my heart deeply. I read the authors note and it was like a soothing balm. I totally get it. I realize that the characters speak for themselves and the authors cannot always go with our(the readers choice)
My Ratings Characters- Confident, sexy and swoon worthy Writing Style- Suspenseful with an edge Plot/Storyline- Suspected f murder a girl races to prove her innocence while having two HOT guys aid her and ask for her heart. Total love triangle. Steam Factor- Lo on a sale of 1-10 I say 6.5 Entertainment Level- Lo-Med- Hi I say High I was caught up and anxious the entire time! Overall- I enjoyed it! Now go forth and read. “You know the best thing about me and you, about the difference in your black skin and my white skin? I can see your beauty more than you ever will. I can tell you everything about it. Because I watch it. Because I don’t have it.” -King
Kim Kind is the Assistant District Attorney in NYC aiming for the number one spot. However a mistake in a recent case has her reluctantly taking time off. During this time she meets King at a bar called Damaged Goods. Kim admits that she is not down with the swirl, meaning she won’t date a white man. Yet, there is something about King that has her gravitating to him.
“Somebody said you were looking for a King.” -King
Things quickly heat up between the two and neither are the wiser. You see, both Kim and King have secrets. And their secrets will change EVERYTHING about their future.
My Thoughts If my thoughts seem jumble I apologize right now. I struggled with this book a lot in the beginning and overall I found the writing to be…sub-par. The insta-love was something I was not really feeling. Kim and King barely knew one another yet they spoke of I love you. The plot lines itself had some interesting twists and turns but in the end it didn’t hit the mark for me personally. In fact it was not until King came on the scene that my attention was actually held. I liked his character annnnd kind of wish the book was told from his point of view instead of Kim’s.Kim had issues...A LOT of issues.
One thing I can say is that Hold Me In Contempt dealt with quite a few true to life issues abandonment, addiction, cheating, betrayal and power to name a few. This is and/or can be a good way to help readers connect to characters but in the grand scheme of things the writing style just did not fit my taste buds.
My Rating and Why I gave Hold Me In Contempt 3 STARS because somewhere around the 50% mark the story picked up, kept most of my interest and fairly entertained me. By the end my firsts thoughts was that the book was ok, I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either.
My Ratings Characters- Complicated Writing Style- Sub-par Plot/Storyline- An ambitious Assistant District Attorney Kim falls for a white guy named King. King’s character is a bit of a mystery. “Don’t live in the past, Kyler, dream about the future. You and Madison—you can have a future. You can have it all.” -Christine
Kyler Parker (Ky) A brawl ending with a possible attempted murder charge puts Kyler Parker in the hot seat with Philly PD. However it's his thirst for revenge that will have him fighting yet again but this time in an underground fight ring. Sometimes all you need is a cause and Ky certainly has one. Detective Jackson Davis(Jax) is privy to Ky's cause. It's a common thread each man shares.
"I became a detective so I could get closer to the case. So I could find the people responsible.” -Jackson
Madison Haynes (Maddy) Madison is Ky's neighbor. His very pretty neighbor who he takes more than a liking to. He falls for her HARD. Only, Madison is complicated. Tiny fragments make up Madison's character. She's not easy to read though intriguing none the less. Madison has this adorable quirky temperament that I like. She holds an innocence, while providing little tidbits if anything about herself. Which only raises questions for the reader...Tell us your secrets Madison. Inquiring minds want to know.
Nate DeLuca (DeLuca) This guy is sneaky sneaky sly dog sneaky. Honestly DeLuca is pretty much a mystery to us. McLean literally only gives you bread crumbs on this guy. On top of this he is the protagonist. But...I like him. Kind of sorta... Ok, maybe it's just slight interest. Whatever the case may be, I cannot wait to know more about him. I love a good bad guy in a story, although I truly hope he's not allllll bad. His name DeLuca hints to possibly being mafia. I mean, I'm just guessing here so only the next two books will tell.
What readers should know.. This is very much Ky's story and it certainly reads that way. I have much anticipation for the next book and where it will lead each character, especially when it comes to Madison. It's like unto a puzzle, where you must fit in each piece to make the story complete. Therefore each character along with their story will complete this series.
The writing is excellent! McLean steps out of her norm and excels! This intriguingly mystery romance will have readers on edge. She essentially has parallel story lines and a double mystery plot going down with both Maddy and DeLuca. Separately yet simultaneously.. And it's odd because character wise they're contrary to one another. When you over look that you find this -> Both characters will pique your curiosity. -> Both characters are given in doses. Whereas Maddy is good with a sweet innocence to her. DeLuca is is the bad guy and equals DANGER. Or does he? Hmmmm... Not much is given about either yet after their introductions they hold an instant appeal to the reader.
My Sweet and Sour My Sweet- The way Christine took Ky in as her own. My Sour- Ky's dad :( Whom at one point Ky refers to as the devil in the flesh. Yes, he is that bad.
Oh and another thing, at one point Ky tells Madison she has no reason to be scared but I disagree. I think she may have plenty of reasons to be scared and I NEED BOOK TWO TO FIND OUT IF I'M RIGHT!
Notes share: Below is a few notes I wrote in my kindle while reading!(hidden as some may consider it to hold spoilers but it's really just questions)
(view spoiler)[Why would the prescription be in someone else name? Who is Sarah? Who is Bailey? What secrets is Ky's mom holding? What secrets is Maddy holding? And WHY? (hide spoiler)]

'The Harbour Falls Myst4 STARS out of 5 Genre: Romantic Suspense -mature content reader discretion is advised.
NOTE: This review has a Total Series Recap
'The Harbour Falls Mystery was the real reason I was here. I had every intention of basing my next novel on the facts of the case. I was tired of fiction; I wanted to write a true crime novel. Plus there was a little part of me— the detective that lurks in all of us— that dreamed of solving this case.'
Maddy Fitch is a Best selling mystery author living in L.A. which is a long way from her hometown of Harbour Falls, Maine. Until now all of her stories have been literary fiction... Maddy recently decided to go home in order to research the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Chelsea Hannigan. A wealthy social lite in Maine.
The facts surrounding the case are not well known. What Maddy does know is that four years ago at the time of her disappearance Chelsea was engaged to marry the mega rich and extremely sexy Adam Ward. Adam became suspect numero uno in her disappearance. Eventually the case trail went cold... Maddy plans to rectify that, hoping her research will in turn solve the case as well.
Maddy is greeted by the unwelcome home party fairly quick.. Prompting her suspicions and fueling her need to solve the case. All it takes is one look. Yes, one look at Ward has Maddy wanting him more than ever in every way that counts, up close and personal. It doesn't take long for Maddy to realize that there is more to Adam than what meets the eye.. In fact it takes her less than 24hrs to draw that conclusion...
'Much like the Harbour Falls Mystery itself, the man at the center was a puzzle. And I longed to solve him, piece by piece.'
Slowly more pieces of the dark case come to light, causing Adam to look guilty.
“Wouldn’t it be poetic if you found out you were sleeping with the enemy, so to speak, in this little scenario?” ~Jennifer
She's in too deep... Some say the truth shall set you free, in this case the truth may just get you killed... Soon Maddy's life is in peril when she digs too close to the truth.
Did Adam kill her or not?
Where book 1 in The Harbour Falls series was more of a guessing game of Who Done It? Book 2, Willow Point, was more so on the level of Clue? Clues that lead Maddy straight to a secret from Adam’s past. Of course our always curious Maddy prefers to be on a must know basis. But didn’t anyone ever tell her that curiosity killed the cat. As the clues lead her to uncover a lie she soon realizes she may lose Adam after all.
Willow Point picks right up where book 1 left off. Maddy was given info from Amy that suggests Adam gave her false information. And he did. Now her alarm bells are ringing... Adam lied, she discovers a carefully hidden truth and it leads her back to the main land and away from Adam. Back on the main land she meets an eye catching new neighbor! Stowe.
‘Why must my neighbor be so hot?’ ~Maddy Of course there may be more to him than meets the eye.
Adam Ward is a very powerful man and when people feel threatened by the power one man holds some may go to extremes to be rid of that threat.
‘Maddy Fitch, bestselling author by trade but persistent investigator in my own time’
In Wickingham Way Maddy discovers that a hit has been put out on her man. She shares her news with him only to find out that he already knew. When an actual attempt is made on Adam’s life the couple is forced in to seclusion for their own safety. Now at a safe house Maddy and Adam grow even closer with nothing but spare time on their hands.
A sudden turn of events has the couple heading back home. Neither knowing what to expect because the only thing that seems clear to them is that if anything they have one another's back.
My Thoughts S.R. Grey has a formula and it works for her very well - mystery, romance, sex and suspense. Whereas mystery dominated the previous book while romance took a back seat in Wickingham Way Grey showcased Maddy and Adam’s romance which is a plus for me. We meet a new character and catch up with a few others. I would love if Stowe and Erin got a book ;) Just sayin! The ending was good and overall there was a great conclusion to this series!
My Ratings Characters- Sweet, Sexy and Lovable Writing Style- Good Plot/Storyline- Maddy and Adam are trying to stay alive as an assassin seeks to take out Adam Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 8 Entertainment Level- Good Overall- I enjoyed it! So I guess this is one of those everybody loves it except for me type deals.
Twenty year old Emily was recently attacked and has decided that she wants to get some defense lessons. She along with her best friend Kat go to an underground fight to seek out the best. A fighter that goes by the name Sculpt.
Things escalate from there pretty quickly.
We get some background on Emily but Sculpt..the only thing we learn about him is his first name. Logan. His past is mystery nobody really knows much about him. None of this deters Emily of course, instead she allows the relationship to move forward without asking man questions. In fact I think it was during their first sexual encounter that he actually told her his name.
That's just...WRONG.
For me personally things just progressed to quickly for me the whole scene near the beginning there is a small time jump. 5weeks have suddenly passed by and Sculpt has been working with Emily on her self defense moves. Next thing I know he is totally in to her after initially saying she basically had no chance with him.
This makes ZERO sense to me. I mean I would have at least liked a few fighting lessons of actual bonding time before that happens. The novella was about sixty-seven pages, ten more of bonding or relationship building would of helped me out a bit. I THINK..
While the ending leaves you screaming WTF and I originally wanted to read Torn From You, I don't think I will be continuing with the series. It's just not for me. However like I said I am in the minority a lot of my friends have enjoyed this series thus far.
My Recommendation: Read at your own risk, to each his/her own....more

In Logan’s words… Holy cock sucking gods of mercy, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!
Reading PNR is like going home for me; PNR started this whole book obsession that I wear like a badge of honor. Keri Lake has written a SUPERB 2ND installment in her Sons of Wrath series. You get action, romance, a strong H/h and of course you meet some interesting characters whom I know will make future appearances in the series.
“For most females I’m relatively harmless. But it seems my nightmares have an affinity for you—evil seeking out purity, or some shit. I got an addiction to your scent, your touch, which has rendered me somewhat mad, you could say.” -Logan
In Soul Avenged we met Logan, son of Wrath and Calla a female Alexi(the Alexi is an army of soldiers bred to slay lycans.) You quickly learn that Logan is a wild card, you never really know what to expect from him, he is cocky, short tempered and totally unapologetic. Oh and just like his older brother Gavin he possesses a charm that leaves you wanting more..
‘My shield was impenetrable. Impenetrable.’ – Logan’s inner monologue
Logan does something in Soul Avenged that positions Calla as his savior and a “bond” is formed in the process. When Soul Resurrected opens, Logan is learning just how tight the new bond has formed and he is NOT happy about it. This in turn causes him to push Calla away.
Soul Resurrected
Hate and vengeance The hot as all hell demon getting under her skin is the least of Calla’s worries. What she wants is vengeance against those who betrayed her and she has every intention of getting it. Attempting to put the pull she feels towards Logan out of her mind is easier said than done. Especially when said demon gives in to what is right in front of him.
‘Touched. He’d actually felt her fingers—registered in both his body and his mind. It’d been years since a woman’s fingertips had penetrated the numbness.’ -Logan
Logan’s back story is revealed methodically throughout the book. You slowly get around to why he has been so numb for so long. It literally had my stomach in knots.
“Queen protects the King, Remember” -Calla
FAVE LINE (I have many but I chose ONE) “Every man has the potential to be dangerous.” Her eyes drilled into Calla’s. “Threaten what’s theirs, and they all become killers.” -Ayden
The Sons of Wrath
Wrath Demons: Warriors of vengeance; sons of the demon prince, Wrath; punishers to those who’ve wronged; each specializes in a form of mental or physical pain
Now, I’m not positive but I think they all possess gifts. Though only a few have been mentioned Gavin- is the eldest son of Wrath and he has visions of the future. Gavin is also my FAVE brother Logan- I believe is the youngest brother and he has the ability to feel/sense sins Calix- is half Incubi he can feed off sexual energy and being half Incubi also comes the ability to erase memories Zayne- is a soul seer, he has the ability to tell if one is lying and more though I do not have details. Zeke- I do not recall a gift being mentioned for him, yet. He is also a twin, Zayne’s twin. Ferno – well like his name he can cause a fiery blaze taking out all in his path. Mad Dog - I do not recall a gift being mentioned for him, yet.
My Thoughts(Careful readers some may see this as spoilery though I do not give specifics) There are quite a few open character story lines; the one that intrigues me most is Gavin’s and not just because he is my favorite brother. He has two situations to contend with and I am extremely curious to see how each will play out.
Then we have Calla, I get the feeling her story is far from over and it is possible she will play a bigger role in future books. Then there are these key players; some we met in book one(Soul Avenged) and some are new.. However each will most likely have recurring roles in future books.
Key players – Lyric, Marrick, Matthias, Sabelle, and Cefirina. WAIT. I almost forgot about Ava, definitely can't wait to see what happens with her.
Another issue.. The Sang? What role will they play and are they evolving in to a bigger problem, most likely. So the real question is how will this affect the son’s of Wrath.
Overall thoughts EXCELLENT world building!!! I think Keri Lake did an AWESOME job, she held my complete attention the entire book and I did lots of highlighting, lol! The story is creatively layered, with multiple pov’s and multiple story lines that are masterfully weaved together. I also felt like at one point Lake took a risk with Calla’s character...sooo like I mentioned before there will be more for Calla I'm sure.
The only downside is I wish we got a little more Ayden and Kane.
Soul Enslaved (Gavin’s book) is one of my most HIGHLY anticipated books for 2014
My Ratings Characters- Sexy, Lovable and Mysterious Writing Style- Top notch! Sucks you right in! Plot/Storyline- Strategic, Layered, with a touch of mystery! Definitely leaves you wanting MORE! Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 8.5 Overall- I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! DAMN THAT ENDING TO ALLLLLL HELL. WHY? WHY? WHYYYYYYY?
‘Some things in life are so sad that there are no words to describe the amount of sadness, grief, and sorrow a person is feeling. I assume this is why God allowed humans the simple act of crying. When a person cries, they feel the sadness slowly ease out of them. They feel as though they are justifiably respecting a person that has died through showing their grief. They allow a moment of sorrow to overcome them and cry out a small portion of their unseen pain.’ -Alexa
First of all this book DESTROYED ME and words…words FAILED ME by the end. I don’t think I have ever been so flustered when writing a review as I am with this one there was things I liked and some things I did not like.(I’ll expand on that later) One thing’s for sure, I was warned by the author as are you. ***Author Note: This is not a love story. This is a story of love gone wrong.***
Definitely safe to say I got what I asked for.
“Monsters don’t always lurk in the shadows.” Reaching up, he runs a fingertip slowly down the length of my jaw. Leaning forward, his breath warms me as he mutters a hairs-breadth away from my lips, “Sometimes they hide in plain sight.”
Alexa Ballentine is an American working in Australia as a case/social worker. She considers her kids her cubs, she deeply cares for their well being and it shows in her actions. In fact I don’t think there is one bad bone in Alexa’s body. Coming from two parents who were not parents at all she personally knows from experience how bad it can be out on the streets.
Alexa is also aware of him; watching her. He’s been doing it for some time now and she can feel his eyes on her whenever he is near.
He is the eyes under the hoodie.
I need her. I want her. I will own her.’ -Twitch
[image]
This is where things get complicated. Something bad happens and it brings hoodie stalker guy up close and personal with Alexa.
‘That’s when he does something I’ve been wishing for forever. He lowers the hood.’
And dude is FRIGHTENING. Scares her, scares me, it gets real. You have no idea what will happen.
‘Opening my eyes to find his still on my face, I ask a hushed, “What’s your name?” The corner of his lip tips up. “Doesn’t matter. You’ll forget it once I’m gone.” Taking a small step towards him, I promise, “No, I won’t.” It’s his turn to take a step back. He watches me some more. Those eyes. It feels as if they see everything. Breathing in, he replies on an exhale, “I’m Twitch.”
We meet the guy in the hood. His name is Twitch and he has an itch so to speak for Alexa.
She wants him.
There’s something animalistic about this man. Something I want to be a part of. Something I want to be included in. He’s a force of nature.’ -Alexa
[image]
The attraction is very clear and she lets him know. Twitch is very up front with Alexa when he tells her what he is about and uhhh how he likes it. DIRTY.
As readers take in both pov’s we learn that Twitch has an agenda. He wants to break Alexa, but why?
‘There’s something about having your choices taken from you that is equally liberating and frightening. Handing over control to a person is a big deal. A showing of trust. And sometimes, I would like to be taken on a ride rather than drive.’ -Alexa
My Sweet and Sour
My Sweet - I enjoyed how Belle Aurora gave us snippets of personality with the internal monologues. I found it witty and entertaining.
My Sour - Well my first choice is too spoilerish so here is my second choice, mean Twitch… I did not like mean Twitch at all.
This is the first time secondary characters made the book for me and the main characters just seemed to give me a splitting headache. I was so unsure on how to rate RAW. Why? Well for one, I struggled with the hero, Twitch and his motives towards Alexa. More so the reasoning behind it. Second, Alexa and her internal battle with allowing Twitch to Dominate her.. It seemed like she fought it throughout the entire book and I just did not get that about her.
Either your down or not. Her actions spoke volumes though..She was DEFINITELY down. So why internally fight it, just accept it. Maybe that is easier said then done, don't know.
My Thoughts Basically I was unhappy with the reasoning Twitch used for going after Alexa. Yes, I understand his anger but I feel as if he chose Alexa without just cause. His anger was completely misdirected. So maybe it was just me. I don’t know, it just felt wrong… Some may argue that that is the point, it was misdirected, that’s the tragedy of it all. And I guess *shrugs a shoulder* I can see how people feel that way.
I sort of thought there was a few plot holes. (view spoiler)[ - How was Twitch able to just set up shop like that in a whole new country with a cover company and so on and so forth? Drug empire’s are not built over night.
- Why did Twitch wait so long to enter Alexa’s life. He said it took a year to find her, ok so how soon was he in Australia after that?
- If he was watching her for so long how did he fail pick up on the fact that she is such a sweet, good hearted person. Was he blinded by his rage? Possible. Why not explore that a bit more? Or is all this a result of his brain injury?
-Why did she not further question Ling living with him? That irked me the way she dropped it.
-His stealth missions in and out of her house? How? Guess that falls in to his mysterious ways category huh? (hide spoiler)]
My Rating and Why 4 STARS- I wanted more. I felt these things could have been explored upon maybe cut out a few sex scenes. OH MY, I can’t believe I just said that… I NEVER opt to cut out sex. However, it would have upped my rating if I had these answers of this I am sure.
My Ratings Characters- Likeable Writing Style- Good Plot/Storyline- Guy wants to break girl, girl wants to be controlled. Can these two find love? Real love? Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 9 Overall- I liked it! My Recommendation: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! When I first finished this book I asked myself "How the heck do I review this with out spoilers?" So I decided to just talk around it. **The synopsis of this book is provided via Goodreads at the end of this review.**
This book was a crazy mixture of The Lying Game(show with twins) meets Pretty Little Liars(show/book features twins) meets Ringer(show with twins) meets Natural Born Killers(movie psycho path couple) meets Single White Female(movie psychopath female) THE COMMONALITY -All of these t.v.shows and movies feature characters who are crazy, psychopathic, deranged, scheming, manipulative liars. They want to ruin lives and/or take someone’s Identity Man Life or a combination of all thee above by any means necessary.
In all honesty RED FLAGS WERE EVERY WHERE when I started.. I spent the first 15% of the books saying to myself
[image]
"Wait..can that really be done?"(me talking to..well...me in regards to some of the twins actions)
Then I answered my self with a resounding
[image]
I probably should have stopped reading it but I was curious about the ending so after the 50% mark I pretty much skimmed through to the end.
Not sure how to classify this book. I don’t think it’s for a reader who prefers their books to be close to reality that’s for damn sure… It seems to muddle reality and causes readers/me to question the plausibility of just about everything that happens.
To put it plainly this book was just unrealistic.
The unrealistic plot is just the tip of the iceberg. Other reasons this did not work for me include THE WRITING THE WRITING THE WRITING...
-The Dialogue -The lack of descriptions =THE WRITING
The dialogue between characters was bad, it felt amateur *cringes* I’m sorry this is just my thoughts…
The lack of descriptionssucked, which in turn failed to build a scene in my mind’s eye. Again this all goes back to THE WRITING. *sighs and hangs head*
The writing which OF COURSE coincides with the dialogue failed to connect me to the characters. On top of that I felt like the characters had no personality for me to grasp..meaning they were not well developed.
Its sad really because I think the concept had so much potential yet the execution just came up short.
NOTE: Just because this book did not work for me it does not mean I won’t try other books by this author because I’ve heard good things about her other books /series.
Synopsis below provided by Goodreads
I’d shared everything with Ivy since we were born. She was my exact double. We were only two minutes apart. I never thought that my own twin sister would steal away my one chance at happiness, but that is exactly what she’d done. She didn’t even know that I was in love with him. How could she? Ivy was too busy being Miss Popular to notice what I wanted.
After having my heart broken, I’d decided to leave my town, and my sister, to go to college out of state. For the past four years, I’d done nothing but work to make a life for myself. We were still the best of friends, but going home was too hard for me to face and I hadn’t been back since they’d gotten married.
I wanted my sister to be happy, even if it meant I never would be. She didn’t have the brains, or the successful future that I knew was coming to me. But, she’d always have the one thing I wanted. The one thing, I could never have. Stoshua Wheeler.
A late night phone call brought me back to town. I should have never considered her request. It wasn’t right to pretend to be her, but she said she was in trouble. I had to help her.
I’d dreamed of being her for five years. I envied their relationship. I wanted her life.
What was I willing to risk to take it for myself?
I’m Willow Green and this is my story...

All the pieces come together in this EXPLOSIVE from start to finish final installment in the Pieces of lies trilogy. Never a dull moment in this series, nope not a single one. Angela Richardson will keep you on your toes till the very last page is read in All The Pieces.

Book highlights - The Truth, the truth hurts - More Secrets - Darkness - Hide and Seek - The Lappell - A party - Fast Cars - Fate - Borrowed Time - The right to choose - Goodbye - David vs Goliath - James - Best ending in 2013. Wait is it too early to say that? WHATEVER.
My Thoughts Fast paced and very well executed, Angela Richardson has a true talent called story telling. She captures readers with lovable and questionable characters with a guessing game that leaves you wondering who the true villain is. She also exercises your brain as you race to solve riddles and put together All the Pieces. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLLENT JOB!! And that ending… EPIC!!!!! Best ending to a series I’ve read in 2013.
My Ratings Characters- Lovable, Sexy and utterly Irresistible Writing Style- Fast paced and very well executed Plot/Storyline- Girl fighting for love and to be free Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 7.5 Overall- I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!!!! The last 10% left me freaking SPEECHLESS. When is the last time a book slap the shit out of you? That is EXACTLY what this book did to me. I love it when an author is not scared to take risks with their characters. Angela Richardson what did you do to me? I don’t think I underestimated her as an author but she certainly surpassed my expectations with the second book in her Pieces of Lies series.
‘What I seek now is the truth. I know that the truth doesn’t always lead to love and that love doesn’t always lead to the truth. I’d like to believe they walk hand in hand, but deep down, I know it simply isn’t true. I must get answers because the darkness in me will never leave, it only sleeps dormant until it’s woken again, and I know lies are its biggest alarm.’ -Norah
Norah is the mc for 98.999% of this book. We get small glimpses from another pov from someone special... *Grins* When I think of Norah I see this
[image]
Men swarm to her like bees to honey.
She has three men who want her. THREE. But her heart belongs to one. What is not to love about Norah, she is strong willed, smart, loving, beautiful and once she is committed you have her heart fully but DO NOT LIE. Because if you lie and get caught you WILL lose her.
At the end of Pieces of Lies Norah learns that her boyfriend, Clint, is keeping something from her, a secret that is not revealed to her or the readers. When Pieces of Truth starts Norah and Clint are still in love and living in New York City. The fact that Clint harbors a secret still weighs heavy in the back of her mind. Never the less it’s obvious the once philandering playboy has changed his ways and is committed to Norah but with secrets laying dormant doubt always seems to creep its way in.
Doubt leads her straight to her best friend Josh for help. Which is cool right? Wrong, there is just one small problem with that..
‘As I looked into his eyes, trying to see into the depths of that darkness, it hit me. It was subtle, but it hit me. The rush of attraction. A heat from inside me suddenly appeared from nowhere. Damn. That’s not good.’ –Norah
See. And it does not help that Josh returns the attraction tenfold. As Norah fights to put that aside she relies on Josh for help to find out once and for all what Clint has hidden from her. He agrees to help her and soon everything spirals out of control. A party themed as the game of TRUTH OR DARE brings out secrets. Leaving Norah to fight for control as her heart breaks and she scrambles to pick up the pieces.
Ultimate betrayals occur...
Enemies become Allies...
And New Enemies show their faces...
But you must read closely as all of these Jaw Dropping Shockers unfold in the story with a plethora of twist and turns. Because I have no doubt that you will want to re-read some lines after being left SPEECHLESS.
Fave Lines said and unsaid
‘I was enjoying this dangerous liaison, but I knew I couldn’t let it persist much further. I had to get home, and I much preferred to keep the memory of our meeting as something sweet rather than sour.’ –Norah
“Two households, both alike in dignity,” Samuel quoted. “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life.” –Samuel
It’s just sexual tension. Hardcore, animalistic, lick his body all over, sexual tension. That’s all it is. –Norah
'His reaction was enough to show he was lying. Lies. More fucking lies. Arrgghh!' –Norah
MY CASTING
[image][image]
My thoughts I LOVED IT! Norah....and paint...and sex O.M.G. NO WORDS. Readers FINALLY get to see Norah and Samuel first meeting play out and it was G O O D!!!! I loved the writing it was fast paced and failed to drag. I thought the author’s ability to leave me speechless was very well done. In fact she did such a good job I have no idea which guy I would like Norah to be with. Although she pics a guy at the end of this book I still feel like there may be some unfinished business with another guy. Regardless I loved her choice! I am anxious to get my hands on book 3 I need MORE Norah, MORE Clint, MORE Josh and MORE Samuel!! And I am curious to know if her final decision will stick. This series has easily become a favorite! I highly Recommend it!!!
My Ratings Characters- lovable Writing Style- Good with lots of twist Plot/Storyline- Sexy, with a love square featuring 1 girl and 3 guys Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy Overall- I loved it!!! SEMPRE: REDEMPTION Dual Review for Reality Bites! Let’s Get Lost! 4 STARS
’The button had been pushed. The nuclear bomb had been ignited. Their fragile SEMPRE: REDEMPTION Dual Review for Reality Bites! Let’s Get Lost! 4 STARS
’The button had been pushed. The nuclear bomb had been ignited. Their fragile bubble of contentment was about to fucking explode.’
Becky - Sempre Redemption centers around Carmine's struggles to adjust to his new life in the Mafia. Needless to say, it is not an easy transition for him. He turns to alcohol and drugs to deal with the things he has seen and done. But the highs only last so long and they are only hurting him more than helping him forget. Honestly, that is what a bulk of the book is about. Going through the motions with Carmine and his new life.
At times, I found myself skimming the pages because the storyline kind of died out in the middle for me. But it does pick back up and I am glad I stuck with it! There are some other things (MAJOR things) that do happen but I can not go into them without giving away some huge parts of the book.
Alexis - The path Carmine’s character took surprised me most. But then again I wonder to myself if it should have. We knew he dabbled in coke and was a heavy drinker but the way he chose to wallow in his misery. I think maybe THAT is what really threw me off and quite frankly turned me off at the same time.
I agree that the story died out at one point. I felt like Carmine was weak and miserable for a BIG CHUNK of the book and I was NOT feeling that, not one bit. For me, the repeat of F’ ups Carmine had was enough to make me lose interest but then as if almost perfectly timed Carrado’s pov would start or something with Haven would occur and I felt like the ball would start rolling again.
I’m just like my goddamn father.” - Carmine
Becky - I never expected Carmine to step into his role with the family and take to it right away. But I also never expected it to turn his character a little b***h either!! I would've liked to have seen more growth with Haven. I felt like she was just surviving and not really living.
Alexis – I think Haven just played the cards she was dealt like you said she was not putting her whole heart in to it. I also think Carrado was Darhower’s secret weapon I mean let’s be honest his part was vital. And I think it is safe to say that this book was his just as much as it was Carmine and Haven’s.
What happens in the first 25% of this book seemed to set the tone and it really does not deviate much with the exception of a few twists here and there. I was constantly waiting for Carmine to snap at Sal(The Chicago Mob boss) for being such an a**hole and then for Carrado to choke the crap out of Carmine for being so reckless at times.
Final Thoughts
Alexis - I have gone back and forth with this rating over and over in my mind and have settled on 4 Stars because 1. The writing was GOOD! And 2. Carrado MADE this book for me. On the flip side Carmine...and the direction Darhower took with his character...Mmmmm let's just say a HUGE chunk of his story was not to my liking.
Becky - I went with my initial gut feeling and rated the book 4 stars as well. There were some things I loved and some things that I didn't. I would say my major problem was an event that happened about 12% in that I just didn't agree with AT. ALL! And like Alexis, I didn't care for the direction the author took Carmine's character.

"Suppose you are both telling the truth, magic exists, and you both are part of a prophecy. Where do I fall in all of this? Why are you both here in my life?" ~Maggie
Maggie Sanders suffered an injury while at war in Afghanistan, one that left her honorably discharged from the army. Now she is home in Washington D.C. running her mothers used bookstore. While working she accidently cuts her hand on a broken edge of her glass counter. Se watches as blood spills from her hand on to a book she was just reading and unknowingly summons King Arthur Pendragon. THE King Arthur.
Legend states when the King Arthur is needed most he will return. What if the legends are wrong?
Arthur has been trapped on Avalon( a mythical island) with his men, his wife Gwen and Lancelot. Unbeknownst to the others Arthur has a portal and from time to time has been summoned randomly to people who need assistance. The last time he was summoned he barely escaped with his life. Nevertheless he can’t help but wonder will he will be going this time.
‘His excitement swirled with a hint of dread. Where would he go this time, and who would he have to kill?’
Maggie thinks she is having heart attack when she is knocked off her feet on to the floor. After getting back on her feet she suddenly comes to realize that a man is under the ruble. A NAKED man. Arthur does not sense any trouble coming Maggie’s way so he asks her point blank "My lady, why am I here?"
Unfortunately she can’t answer him. She has no clue why or how he is even there. Slowly she comes to realize there is more to the naked man who magically appeared in her bookstore. And that may be just maybe he is who he claims to be Arthur Pendragon. As he and Maggie start to build a friendship other familiar characters surface. Both Merlyn and Arthur work to find a way to free the others from Avalon while a friend turned enemy plans to fight Arthur for the woman he loves.
My Thoughts This was a quick fun take on a legend who is familiar to us all. We get a brokenhearted Arthur who is still clearly upset about the betrayal of his wife Gwen and Lancelot getting together. This is written in a fantasy manner and sort of reminded me of the movie Enchanted were classic characters cross over in to the real world. Of course this had a bit more of a sexy edge to it with a couple sex scenes that will leave you squirming in your seat. Overall I enjoyed it!

A WHOLE LOT OF TEARS WAS SHED WHILE READING THIS… My heart ACHES for Alfonzo and Selange can they survive this?
‘Many men… many… many… many… many men, wish death on me…’ -Lyrics by rapper 50 Cent Alfonzo is a marked man however the threat to his life comes from someone he least expects. Meanwhile Selange goes to Italy a week early, leaving the husband and kids behind. Amelda, Alfonzo’s cousin is to wed and the women have a weeks worth of festivities to attend. Selange’s heart is battling with a betrayal she made against her husband. One that has left her heart split in two. A half for each man…
‘She felt tortured and frightened by the unknown. It was like being caught in a web of deception and not being able to escape.’ –Inner monologue of Selange
“She’s so beautiful, like a fire on a winter night. I can also see her innocence, she’s young to our ways but you are not. Her fire will melt your ice into water and it will run red. Do not love her so openly, it’s in your eyes.” ~Sophie to Nico
Nico does not even fight his feelings for Selange; he has lost his family from his betrayal and if Selange is wiling to share her body with him then he will take it. And oh boy does he take it…
‘At the edge of every sweet lie sits the dirty truth. Nico’s days were numbered!’
SECRETS. A lot of secrets are revealed in this book. It seems Nico is still finding out who he is.
By the end of this book I was still crying. Can’t stop crying….
‘This woman was his everything, he worshiped the ground she walked on, gave her everything a man could give and she took… took… took… took… it all away.’ ~Inner monologue of Alfonzo
The ending…

Murder, Lust, Corruption and Betrayal
‘In a perfect world without greed or ambitions there exists no anarchy; this is not that world.' ~ Alfonzo
This book left my heart in tatters. I’m talking chest caving in, I can’t breath somebody get me an oxygen tank my pulse just dropped. S.W.Frank is officially an auto-buy author for me. Just when Alfonzo thinks he’s out he gets pulled RIGHT BACK IN.
When a drug called Anarchy floods the streets and becomes the drug of choice for rich college kids in America. Alfonzo finds himself looking for the man behind the dangerous pill. So dangerous in fact that kids are dropping dead from it. While vacationing in Miami, Jessica, Alfonzo’s cousin is with her friends Beth and Vicky, when all three end up in the hospital and one girl is pronounced dead. Alfonzo with the help of one of his workers, Emilio gets Jessica to a safe location away from prying news reporters and police.
What Alfonzo does not know is that someone seeks to take him out. Someone wants his coveted #1 spot. Rumors of Ledgers resurface…ledgers that hold money, power and respect all rolled in to one.
“What is this good-faith?” “The traitor’s head within 72 hours.” “Or?” “Or, anarchy will not come from a drug. It will be a torturous and sobering reality.”
My Thoughts ACTION PACKED!!! LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!! Alfonzo is THE MAN! I love him! We get great secondary characters/stories with Jessica and Emilio these two bring some youthful spice as well as the drama. “My brother Domingo’s actually the crazy one. He’ll shoot you and ask questions later.” Jess to Emilio
What will really catch readers off guard is the betrayal of two characters that Alfonzo trust with his life. I speculated… but when it happened I was CRUSHED.
FAVE Line
