First of all, I am so incredibly impressed with H.E. Edgmon; They are certain to be a force to be reckoned with in the YA stratosphere after this amazingly fantastical YA queer fantasy DEBUT ! YES. THIS WAS A DEBUT. Can you believe it?! Because you could've fooled me!
Honestly, this book was JUSTTTTT... utter, & complete perfection. The fantasical as hell, dark fantasy, 'portal writing' style atmosphere was just SO perfectly crafted. The LGBTQIA+ representation & how it was presented really just blew me away. The world building blew me away. The character development blew me away. The PLOT blew me away. The humor had me doubled OVER! The romance was perfect! Having a gay trans WITCH as the main character was just UTTER PERFECTION in and of itself. PURE Brilliance, especially because the MC, Wyatt, is one trans witch you most definitely have NOT met before. This book is so incredibly original, it is just brilliant!
In fact, EVERYTHING about The Witch King blew me away. The fact that LGBTQIA+ representation was so very present and never looked at as something 'other,' but instead, completely normal (because it IS), is exactly the type of rep I love to read, & many authors have TRIED to write a world where this seems truly natural, but few have succeeded in the way that Edgmon has! They have expertly crafted an environment where sexual & gender identity are simply that & readers of all identities will feel at home within this, again, *DEBUT* & I feel that this book is one that so many people absolutely NEED to read, for this reason (amongst just about a million others ...more

My loves! I got them back for a novella! Zuzana & Mik... This book was a rabid fairy whimsical DREAM! I am twirling around in the proverbial snow (with peacock footprints around me! and origami butterflies taking flight! And fireworks igniting in my heart! ) right now.
This was nothing short of brilliant, heartwarming, & hilarious!
I loved seeing more Mik POV, he's absolutely hysterically, whimsically funny & the perfect puzzle piece fit for Zuzana, as she is for him!
And holy crap was this beautiful. Jim Di Bartolo's art is INCREDIBLE & SO totally my aesthetic and so boy, was that a freakin' TREAT! All of the illustrations take on a sort of dark whimsy (think Gaiman-esque)... ANDILOVEIT.
This story was pure perfection. Karou was such a welcome presence, through her texts to Zuze, as well... I missed her! ...more

It drives me nuts when readers rate without reading, but star ratings are very important for other readers to even CONSIDER interest. I know that, personally, I generally will not read anything rated 3.8 or below. These ratings therefore directly affect the author & the author's sales. I think a lot of people forget about that, which IMO is super selfish....more

Holy freakin’ moly. So insaneeeeee! I don’t know how Derek Landy does this! He is utterly genius! Each & every single novel in this series has been life changing. Living in these books has been truly & completely addicting... my goodness they are the most magical, original, ironic, sarcastic as hell, badass, mystifying, topsy-turvy, CRAZY, INSANE books i’ve ever read! i will never get enough of all of the magic, the supernatural & magic beings, the mysterious creatures, the secret magical locations, the various new dimensions (!), the constant new & each just as devastating as the last (even more so, actually... just when you think the ante couldn’t be upped... there it is) scrapes with Armageddon... you’d think there would not be anything even remotely possible that could surprise you... but it damn always does! This books are so WONDERFULLY weird, & are actually pretty horrifying & violent at times... but the banter, wit, and generally just freakin’ hilarious sarcasm filled narrative evens it all out. There are always new absolutely bonkers secrets being revealed & new plots slowly forming from book to book. These are truly all works of speculative fiction mastery!

I actually LOVED this! There is a bit of insta-love which is a trope that I usually hateeeee, but this book is all about “sealed” fate and such, so... it made sense! It is about a land where fairy tales are not stories of the past, but actually prophecies of the future, in a high fantasy world called Enchantia. There, magic flows through the land, and all SORTS of (awesome!!!) magical races & creatures exist. The main character, Everly, arrives in Enchantia somewhat accidentally, & realizes that she is a part of the prophecy that Enchantia is trying to piece together to defeat the Evil Queen. This book is SO fun because as the story continues, both you AND the characters will be scrambling to figure out who is who in the prophecy of the Brothers Grimm story of Snow White.
The story is FULL of magic, wonder, & excitement and I really, really enjoyed it! I love retellings, And this one was SO unique! I adored it ...more
