During the dramatic season 6 finale of The Kardashians,
Kim and Khloé Kardashian shared that their late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., who died in 2003 after a brief fight with esophageal cancer, was the subject of recurring dreams of theirs. While the dreams usually feel reassuring, a recent dream resonated with some long-unspoken emotions — specifically about their father's last spouse,
Ellen Pearson.
Kim told Khloé that she had a dream the previous night, in which their father was alive and residing in Los Angeles — but significantly, he was "hiding from them" and living with
Ellen. Khloé's spontaneous response to the name of Ellen was a frank and unvarnished "Ew," discreetly but unmistakably conveying her opinion on the subject.
Although the sisters did not explore the issue further on screen, the scene depicted an old tension between the family and Pearson, who wed
Robert Sr. just before his death. Their animosity with Ellen has made headlines on occasion over the years, mostly regarding arguments over personal diaries and photos following Robert's death.
In a later confessional scene, Kim, 44, called Khloé to help recall more details from her dream.
When Ellen's name came up again, a producer asked if she was referring to former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres — to which Kim laughed, clarifying, "No, his wife." She also joked, "That would've been the dream," a pointed comment that silently validated the family's dislike of Pearson.
Although the sisters tend to talk fondly and wistfully about their father, this episode provided a glimpse into some of the unfinished feelings surrounding his last act — and the individuals who were involved. Although the Kardashians have opted not to broadcast every aspect of their tense relationship with Ellen Pearson, the season finale made one thing certain: the tension is hardly forgotten.
