“Sick of it”: Emmitt Smith raises eyebrows with shady jab at eagles fans, questions if their super bowl hype is overcompensation

Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith recently threw shade at Philadelphia Eagles fans, calling them out for overhyping their Super Bowl wins. He expressed frustration, saying he's "sick of it" pointing out that while Eagles fans brag loudly, their actual championship record doesn’t measure up to teams like the Cowboys.

Emmitt Smith throws shade at Eagles fans for hyping up Super Bowl success

This isn’t the first time Emmith Smith has clashed with Philadelphia Eagles fans. Back in 2018, during Super Bowl week, he fired back at hecklers chanting "Dallas sucks" by reminding them of the Cowboys’ ring count and throwing in a stinging comment about their team pride.
NFL analyst Eva Geitheim from Sports Illustrated highlighted Emmitt Smith's recent comments, where he didn’t hold back on his thoughts about Eagles fans.
"I’m sick of it ... We have allowed others to nitpick at the star and make fun of the star and make fun of the star and that's what happens—now all of a sudden over the last 20 years, they win two Super Bowls and they think they’re the best thing on the planet."

Smith added, "And everywhere I go I hear, ‘Go Birds.’ I’m sick of hearing ‘Go Birds.’ I’m always asking where are you going? You still got a long way to go to get to us."
Smith has also criticized the Eagles for questionable moves like accusing them of tanking a game in 2021 for a better draft position, saying it sent a bad message about quitting rather than playing with heart. Still, he’s not all fire and fury. He’s shown respect for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, even calling him a champion before the 2023 Super Bowl. Surprisingly, in 2025, Smith even said he wanted the Eagles to win the Super Bowl to represent the NFC well something unexpected given the historic rivalry.
While Emmitt Smith is right about the Cowboys having more overall championships, the Eagles have clearly outperformed them in recent years. With consistent playoff runs and a Super Bowl win in the past decade, Eagles fans have something current to brag about something Cowboys fans haven’t had since 1995: a ring in the 21st century.

In the end, Emmitt Smith’s message was loud and clear: respect is earned through sustained success, not just one big win. While he acknowledges the Eagles have had their moments, he believes the constant boasting is overblown. For Smith, it's not just about one Super Bowl it's about building a legacy, and in his eyes, the Eagles still have a long way to go.
