Mark Andrews snubbed for Justin Tucker? John Harbaugh’s bold draft message to Ravens GM sparks locker room controversy

The Baltimore Ravens are strategically shifting their focus, potentially impacting key players like Justin Tucker and Mark Andrews. Coach Harbaugh openly seeks a return specialist in the draft, signaling a special teams priority. Andrews' future with the team remains uncertain, as the Ravens prioritize building for the future, leaving no player's position entirely secure.

Justin Tucker, once seen as nearly untouchable in Baltimore, is now getting the kind of roster-shaping attention once reserved for tight end Mark Andrews. Back when Andrews was the offensive cornerstone, the Ravens built around him custom plays, red zone focus, and a hefty contract.
Now, with Tucker aging and his leg losing a bit of power, John Harbaugh is shifting focus. He’s calling for someone who can help flip the field before Tucker is even needed, showing that even a legendary kicker can’t escape the changing priorities of a team building for the future.

Ravens head coach makes waves by publicly requesting a return specialist in the draft

John Harbaugh stepped outside Baltimore’s usual tight-lipped approach by publicly voicing his draft desires specifically asking for a return specialist. With GM Eric DeCosta right next to him, it wasn’t just a suggestion; it felt like a strategic nudge or even a quiet rebellion. In a front office known for secrecy, Harbaugh’s bold move spoke volumes.

John Harbaugh didn’t just hint he openly told reporters, “I’m hoping the Ravens will draft a returner,” making it clear he’s prioritizing special teams over flashier needs like a WR2 or backup for Lamar Jackson. While Tylan Wallace has stepped up, Deonte Harty’s absence has left a noticeable gap. With 11 draft picks, Baltimore has the flexibility to also consider a kicker.
As Harbaugh said during the NFL annual meetings, “It’s something we have to do, no matter what, at this point in time. You always got to do your due diligence.” With Justin Tucker facing serious allegations, the Ravens may be forced to prepare for the future now.
Mark Andrews, who racked up 11 touchdowns in 2024 and carries a hefty cap hit, finds himself on uncertain ground. When GM Eric DeCosta was asked directly if Andrews would still be a Raven in 2025, he didn’t give a straight “yes.”

Instead, he gave a vague but respectful response, “I never know what’s going to happen, and I would never want to say this or that, but I can tell you this: Mark Andrews is a warrior, and he’s played his butt off for us, and his competitiveness, his talent, his attitude, his leadership is so valued here. He’s a great player, and we’re in the business of keeping as many great players as we can, so there’s always a lot of unpredictability with the draft. You just never know.”

DeCosta’s response left the future of Andrews in limbo, highlighting the unpredictability of roster decisions, especially with the draft looming. While Andrews' impact on the field is undeniable, the Ravens' business of building for the future means no player’s position is ever entirely secure.
