Brett Favre slams Netflix for ‘character assassination’ as NFL legend leads fan revolt over explosive docuseries

Brett Favre, a Hall of Famer, Super Bowl champion, and 11-time Pro Bowler, once stood as a revered figure in Green Bay and across the NFL. However, his off-field controversies have clouded his legacy, raising questions about whether the NFL’s idolization of players like Favre has gone too far. Netflix’s upcoming Untold: The Fall of Favre aims to dive into this very narrative, exploring the darker chapters of the legendary quarterback’s life, a move Favre reportedly isn't happy about.


Author Jeff Pearlman, in his biography Gunslinger: The Remarkable, Improbable, Iconic Life of Brett Favre, detailed the quarterback’s lifestyle during the '90s, writing it was filled with “so much alcohol. So many women. So many nights on the town.” The Netflix feature, combined with those revelations, may further erode public support for Favre, though he still seems to find comfort among his loyal fan base.
The documentary is a collaboration with Front Office Sports, which has previously described Favre as “the womanizing, hard-partying QB whose secrets were fiercely protected in provincial Green Bay.” Directed by Rebecca Gitlitz, the one-hour special promises to offer a revealing look at the man behind the myth, aiming to show viewers “what’s on the other side of Favre’s fame.”
“This story about one of the greatest quarterbacks in history goes beyond touchdowns and epic wins and lifts the lid on how, when fame rises, sometimes accountability falls. It was made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told by the people who lived with the consequences of Favre’s actions, to ask audiences to consider if success should be a shield for harmful behavior,” Gitlitz shared.

As controversy swirls again, Brett Favre kept his response simple, saying, “Thank you all so much.” With his character under renewed scrutiny, the message reflects gratitude toward loyal fans who still stand by him. Many refuse to believe the stories that aim to tarnish the legacy of the quarterback they admire.
Netflix’s The Fall of Favre dives into several controversies, opening with a powerful claim from Jenn Sterger, who accused Favre of harassment in 2008. In the trailer, she states, “Brett Favre ultimately destroyed my life.” Sterger, a former Jets game-day host, alleges he sent her explicit messages, including a voicemail where he asked, “come over tonight.” Though the NFL found no policy violation, Favre later admitted to sending voicemails during his time with the Jets.
