‘Marco’ actor Jagadish asks, “If violence in films influences viewers, why not the good messages?”

Recent violent incidents among Kerala's youth are being linked to violent films. Actor Jagadish questions why audiences only mimic violent acts and not positive messages in films. He emphasizes that his character's actions in 'Marco' do not reflect his personal stance. Jagadish also highlights the promotion of positive values in movies like 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai', questioning their limited impact on viewers. Meanwhile, Kerala Police seek help from the Union Ministry to restrict access to violent content online, citing it as a factor in rising youth crime.

Amid the issue of violent incidents happening recently among the youth in Kerala, the majority are pointing at the influence of recent violent films in Mollywood. Now, the actor Jagadish has put forward a valid question on why audiences are only influenced by violence in films and not by the positive messages they convey.

Speaking about his role in ‘Marco’ during the press meet of his upcoming film ‘Parivaar’ , Jagadish said that his character in the film supports violence, but in real life, he does not.

"The question is, do audiences like the character or Jagadish as a person?" he asked. He further pointed out that films often convey positive messages, too. "Take Lage Raho Munna Bhai, for example. It promoted Gandhian values. But how many people actually adopted those values? So, can we really say that audiences are only influenced by negativity and not by goodness?"
Clarifying his stance, he stated, "In ‘Marco, ’ my character Tony Isaac supports violence. But does the audience like Tony Isaac or Jagadish? If it's Jagadish they like, then let me be clear—I have never spoken in favor of violence. When I visit schools and colleges, I always try to spread a message of love. If audiences reject the message I, Jagadish, am giving and instead accept what Tony Isaac portrays, then that is indeed a topic for debate," he said.
Meanwhile, according to The Hindu, the Kerala Police have sought the help of the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT to minimize access to violent content, which also includes games that promote gore. All these violent contents shown in movies and games are reportedly claimed by them to be the major reasons for the recently increased crime rates among youth in Kerala.
