Mumbai police issues third notice to Kunal Kamra over remarks on Eknath Shinde, summons him for questioning on April 5

Mumbai Police have issued a third notice to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, asking him to appear for questioning on April 5 regarding his remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his latest stand-up special, Naya Bharat, released on YouTube.

Previously called twice but did not respond
As per ANI , according to officials, Kamra had been summoned twice before but failed to appear for questioning. "Mumbai Police has issued a third notice to Kunal Kamra to appear on April 5 and record his statement. He was previously called twice but did not respond," police sources confirmed.
The comedian is currently facing multiple complaints filed against him for allegedly mocking Eknath Shinde. The Mumbai Police have launched an investigation into his remarks and are also reviewing whether Kamra has made similar satirical statements about other politicians, actors, or sportspersons in the past. If such instances are found, further legal action may be taken.
Kamra has not directly engaged with the police
Kamra's lawyer has reportedly been in contact with the authorities, but the comedian himself has not directly engaged with the police. Three separate cases have been filed against him at the Khar Police Station. One of the complaints was lodged by the Mayor of Jalgaon, while the other two came from a businessman and a hotelier from Nashik.

The controversy escalated after Kamra’s "gaddar" (traitor) joke, which was allegedly aimed at Eknath Shinde, triggered strong reactions from political leaders who demanded action against him.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail in relation to multiple FIRs lodged against him. Justice Sunder Mohan provided relief until April 7, stating that Kamra should not be arrested until then.
