VISAKHAPATNAM: At least Three people were killed, and around 16 others injured in a road accident when a lorry hit cars and bikes, which were waiting at traffic signal point on the NH-16 stretch at Lankelapalem under Parawada mandal in Anakapalle district on Monday night.The lorry heading towards Anakapalle from Gajuwaka hit the vehicles and came to halt after hitting a heavy vehicle, which was heading towards Parawada.The deceased have been identified as P Gandhi (52), a native of Rebaka in Anakapalle mandal, KA Naidu (55), a native of Anakapalle and Yerrapadu (30), a resident of Vizag city a native of Bobbili.The accident has led to traffic chaos on the stretch for more than one hour. The police with the support of the fire service personnel regulated the traffic by clearing the vehicles.Among the sixteen injured persons, seven persons were undergoing treatment at Anakapalle hospital while nine others have been admitted to Aganampudi.The police said the lorry driver lost control over the vehicle due to over-speeding and rammed into the multiple vehicles. The police suspect the driver was under the influence of liquor. A case has been registered and the investigation is on.
