Chhattisgarh CM Meets Union Home Minister, Reviews Criminal Law Reforms, Maoist Strategy

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to review the state's preparedness for the implementation of the newly reformed criminal laws and to discuss strategies aimed at eliminating Maoism and boosting development in the Bastar region.
Top officials from the Union Home Ministry and the Chhattisgarh state government, including Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma, were also present at the strategic meeting.
During the discussion, CM Vishnu Deo Sai assured the Home Minister that Chhattisgarh is fully prepared to implement the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
Sai stated that the state has already developed 27 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), trained over 37,000 police personnel, digitally upgraded police stations, jails, and courts and registered 53,981 FIRs under the new laws, with charge sheets filed in 50% of these cases.
The state has also established e-evidence handling systems and video conferencing infrastructure to modernize judicial proceedings, CM said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged for 100 percent implementation of the new legal framework, emphasizing its aim to make India’s judicial system faster, simpler, and more citizen-centric.
The meeting also focused heavily on security challenges, especially the eradication of Left-Wing Extremism. CM Sai highlighted that multiple successful operations have been carried out recently, resulting in the elimination, arrest, or surrender of several wanted Naxals.
