According to the police, the recoveries from the accused included 10 grams of heroin, an illegal country-made .32 bore pistol along with a magazine, a black Fortuner, a Swift car, and Rs 2,00,000 in drug money. Sharing details, SSP Khanna Dr Jyoti Yadav said that on 25 April, Sub-Inspector Nitish Kumar, Incharge of PP Heedon, under Police Station Samrala, along with his police party, set up a checkpoint opposite Police Post Heedon on the Chandigarh to Ludhiana side to check suspicious persons. She added that during the checking, a Fortuner car arrived at the checkpoint with four young men inside.
The police officer stated that the police stopped the car and asked the occupants for their names and addresses, after which the driver identified himself as Jagpreet Singh, and the three other individuals in the vehicle identified themselves as Gursewak, Jagrup, and Jass Singh. She added that during the search of the vehicle, 10 grams of heroin were recovered from the dashboard compartment, after which a case under NDPS and 111 BNS (Organised crime) was registered on 25 April at Samrala police station, and an investigation was initiated.
Police said that during the investigation, accused Jagpreet Singh led the police to the recovery of an illegal .32 bore country-made pistol along with a magazine, after which sections of the Arms Act were added to the case. It was added that Jagpreet further confessed to his involvement in the commercial purchase and distribution of heroin and illegal arms to his clients and revealed the involvement of his associates Hardeep and Gurlal.
Police further stated that during the investigation of the main accused, Jagpreet and his associates, in connection with ongoing drug trafficking cases, it came to light that several individuals were involved in this illegal drug network. It was added that those involved in the network included Prakash Gupta, Mohammad Yasin, Vanshika Thakur, Tanu, and Lovepreet Singh.
Khanna police said that these individuals were found to be actively involved in the drug trafficking network operated by Jagpreet Singh Jagga. It was added that upon this revelation, they were nominated as accused in the case and subsequently arrested.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused were using both Indian and foreign WhatsApp numbers to communicate with each other. Through these platforms, they shared drug pickup locations and coordinated deliveries. Jagpreet Singh alias Jagga was found to be receiving active assistance from Prakash Gupta, Mohammad Yasin, Vanshika Thakur alias Mehak, and Tanu in executing this drug supply network. They were residing in two rented flats in Kharar, the rent for which was paid by Jagpreet Singh. Prakash, Mohammad Yasin, and Vanshika would follow Jagga’s instructions, collect the drug consignments, and deliver them to designated locations,” police said.
“The payment received through platforms such as Google Pay was deposited into the bank accounts of Tanu. Bank statement verification confirmed that transactions ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh per month were being made in Tanu’s accounts, further substantiating the financial link to drug trafficking. It was also found that Jagga was using foreign WhatsApp numbers to coordinate drug purchases.”
Police said that Jagga maintained contact with individuals inside jails, who would call him from within the jail using WhatsApp to inform him of the delivery locations. “A person would then arrive at the specified location to hand over the narcotics to Jagga. On multiple occasions, Jagga also procured drugs from Lovepreet Singh by going to locations provided by him,” police said.
