IMPHAL: Two Kuki villages — Gampal and Halyang — under the Sahamphung sub-division in Manipur's Kamjong district have been burnt down to ashes by unidentified miscreants.
The incident, which took place around 9am on Wednesday, posed a risk of creating law-and-order problems and disrupting peace and public tranquillity in the area. Security forces have rushed to the scene to assess the damage and provide assistance to affected residents.
The district administration has clamped curfew in the area to avoid further escalation of the situation, which may lead to serious breach of peace, endanger public tranquillity and pose risks to human lives and property.
An order has prohibited the movement of any person outside their respective residences and any other act or activity that may disturb the prevailing law and order in the scheduled area from 2pm on Wednesday until further orders.
This decree shall not be applicable to govt agencies responsible for maintaining law and order and providing essential services.
In extraordinary circumstances, individuals seeking to organise a procession for occasions such as marriage, funerals, or other celebrations within the designated area must obtain written permission from the undersigned or the superintendent of police of Kamjong district. No such procession is permitted to begin until the relevant authorities grant written authorisation.
Additionally, Hungyo Yurreikan, SDC/Sahamphung, has been appointed as the executive magistrate for the entire jurisdiction of the villages of Gampal and Halyang.
