Panaji:St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar has decided to squat outside the town and country planning department’s sub-office in protest against the illegal constructions on hill slopes and on the beach at Bambolim. Borkar, who was joined by RG leader Manoj Parab, said that he will live on the streets until the approvals are revoked.
Borkar has brought clothes and bedding to sleep, saying that repeated complaints have fallen on deaf ears. He has also opposed the construction of a concrete wall at Bambolim beach.
“Our first demand is the immediate halt to all the work by Worldwide Resorts and Entertainment Pvt Ltd and the demolition of all the work undertaken,” said Borkar. “Our second demand is to stop and demolish the illegal concrete wall built by Hyatt Resorts on Bambolim beach.”
Parab said that BJP has not only taken the state for granted but also taken its own cadre for granted. “We will not get up from here until we get an outcome,” he said.
Alleging that repeated complaints have fallen on deaf ears, Borkar said he resorted to the indefinite protest as a last resort. RG recently held a candlelight protest at Bambolim against the environmental destruction there.
“Some projects don’t have all the permissions, and some projects start without any permission. The TCP has corrupt officers. If they were not corrupt, they would have issued stop work orders,” said Borkar.
