One of the key aspects of this National Lok Adalat is that people from anywhere in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other states can come and settle their Delhi Traffic Police challans. The key point to note is that the state where the vehicle is registered does not matter over here, what matters is that the challan/notices must be issued by the Delhi Traffic Police.

How will the National Lok Adalat, Delhi work on May 10, 2025?
According to the public notice issued by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority here are the categories of cases which would be taken up in this Lok Adalat:- Criminal compoundable offences
- Cheque dishonour cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act
- Money recovery cases
- Motor Accident Claims cases (MACT)
- Labour dispute cases;
- Electricity and water bill cases
- Matrimonial disputes (except divorce)
- Land acquisition cases
- Services matters relating to pay, allowances and retiral benefits,
- Revenue cases (pending in district and high courts only),
- Other civil cases
- Compoundable traffic challans.
- Electricity and water dispute: "One of my clients had a commercial electricity connection. In case of such connections the electricity charges continue to be billed whether electricity is used or not. So my client informed the power company that due to some fire safety work his connection should be turned off for 3 months. However, the power company failed to do so and billed him Rs 1.35 lakh. Hence the legal dispute started. Ultimately in the Lok Adalat he settled the case by paying Rs 5000 (excluding legal cost).”
- Motor accident claims case: "In another case, a client who became 45% disabled, claimed Rs 8 lakh from the insurance company under Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Act (MACT). The Insurance company was paying Rs 3 lakh. Ultimately in Lok Adalat he got Rs 4.25 lakh. In MACT cases the judge takes the opinion of medical experts and works like a mediator between the insurance company and the accident victim.”
- Motor insurance civil case: “In another case where I represented an insurance company, a car got stolen and the owner demanded Rs 12 lakh (IDV- Insurance Declared Value)) plus interest. However, when the insurance company’s surveyor investigated, the owner said that he had lost the spare key but he did not file an FIR for this. Ultimately in Lok Adalat the matter got settled as the insurance company was ordered to pay 70% of the money i.e. Rs 9 lakh and settle the case in full.
How to settle Delhi Traffic Police challans in the National Lok Adalat on May 10, 2025
According to the public notice issued by the Delhi Traffic Police, here’s how the National Lok Adalat, Delhi will work for settling traffic challans on May 10, 2025:- The adalat can be used for settlement of compoundable traffic challans, including spot challans and notices of all types of vehicles (including commercial vehicles) pending on the Delhi Traffic Police portal till January 31, 2025.
- In order to take up maximum challans/notices in the Lok Adalat, it was decided only compoundable traffic notice/challans till January 31, 2025 will be taken up. Non-compoundable, cognizance declined notices, paid notices, disposed off notices and transferred to regular/evening/digital courts notices will not be taken up in this Lok Adalat.
- All the notices/challans are to be downloaded from Delhi Traffic Police website. It is mandatory to carry a print out of the notices/challans. There will not be any facility of print out in the court complexes.
- To download and take print out of the notices/challans log on to the Delhi Traffic Police website- https://traffic.delhipolice.gov.in/notice/lokadalat.
- The above mentioned Delhi Traffic Police link will be activated from May 5, 2025 at 10AM and a maximum of 60,000 challans/notices can be downloaded per day till the overall Lok Adalat limit of 1.8 lakh challans/notices is exhausted.
- To get challans disposed off visit the stated court number in the court complex as mentioned in the printout of the challan/notices at prescribed time slot allotted.
In the National Lok Adalat on May 10, 2025 only compoundable challans/notices can be settled. The Motor Vehicles law divides offences into two types: compoundable and non-compoundable offences. As per Section 200, compoundable offences enable offenders to settle fines by making direct payments to authorised officers. Non-compoundable offences require that offenders appear in court to face formal legal proceedings.
What is the maximum capacity of the respective courts organising National Lok Adalat in Delhi on May 10, 2025?
According to the public notice, it is mentioned that only 1000 Delhi traffic challans/notices will be taken up for disposal by each bench in all 180 Lok Adalat benches.
