In a late-night IPL clash that stretched past midnight at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra faced serious penalties for separate infractions. The match, interrupted by rain and decided by the DLS method, saw Gujarat Titans pull off a three-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians.

According to a statement issued by the IPL, “As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh.” In addition to Pandya’s penalty, all playing members of the Mumbai Indians squad — including the impact player and the concussion substitute — were fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fees, whichever was lower.

While the IPL statement did not detail the specific incident involving Ashish Nehra, the Gujarat Titans head coach was visibly animated during the rain-disrupted encounter. The former Indian fast bowler was seen engaging in intense discussions with the on-field umpires, and at times, appeared clearly agitated.

The IPL’s release said, “Ashish Nehra, Head Coach, Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.” The statement further added, “He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 – which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game – and accepted the match referee's sanction.”

Under IPL rules, decisions by the match referee concerning Level 1 offences are final and binding. The penalties follow a tense evening of cricket where administrative discipline shared the spotlight with on-field drama.

Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians by three wickets using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a tense Indian Premier League match on Tuesday. Mumbai, batting first, were held to a modest 155 for eight. After two rain delays, GT chased a revised target of 147, winning on the final ball.

GT skipper Shubman Gill top-scored with 43 off 46 balls. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult bowled impressively, each taking two wickets.
