AgenciesGuwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that from the investment summit on February 25 and 26, the state is expecting investment over One lakh core, and the state is also expecting Rs 50,000 crore investment in infrastructure from Government of India.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government has received several mou proposals and before inking those state cabinets will scan all the proposals. “Mou will be scrutinised during the cabinet meeting on February 23. Unlike other investment summits where MoUs are signed first and later approved by the cabinet, Assam will take the reverse approach—with the cabinet reviewing each proposal beforehand.”
Sarma said, “I am confident that the summit will bring anything beyond Rs 1 lakh crore, and there is also scope for more. On the infrastructure front, we expect projects worth over Rs 50,000 crore.”
The Chief Minister noted that the current estimates exclude major corporate announcements yet to be made by industry leaders, including Mukesh Ambani and Sajjan Jindal. "We still don’t know what Ambani, Jindal, and others will announce—that is their prerogative," he added.
He added the state government has already received 1,500 specific requests for Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across sectors such as sustainable aviation fuel, power projects, hospitals, universities, and medical colleges.
Sarma added, “In the entire world Assam’s identity is tagged with semiconductors. When I visited Japan and Korea in 2019, we addressed roadshows in front of just 20-25 people. This year, the scenario was completely different. Foreign nations are actively seeking a semiconductor ecosystem and advanced chip-making facilities, and Assam is emerging as a promising destination,” he said.
"One of the sessions, 'I-Way to Viksit Assam', in the Investment summit will be chaired by Minister of DoNER Affairs Jyotiraditya Scindia. Another significant session, 'Act East, Act Fast and Act First', will feature External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, with ambassadors from Singapore and Thailand also participating.
Union Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on semiconductors, and Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri will discuss hydrocarbons. A valedictory session by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be held.
