Former Vice President Kamala Harris made her first major public appearance since losing the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump, drawing widespread attention both for her pointed political speech and an unexpected dance moment. Attending the 20th anniversary celebration of Emerge America in San Francisco, Harris addressed a room full of Democratic supporters with a sharp critique of the current administration’s early performance.

Harris condemned President Trump's policies on tariffs and immigration, warning that the country is headed “too fast in a dangerous direction.” She described the current pace of political change as “a high-velocity event” driven by a long-standing agenda to undermine public services. “An agenda to slash public education. An agenda to shrink government and then privatize its services,” Harris stated. “All while giving tax breaks to the wealthiest amongst us. By the way, an agenda that is not lowering costs. Not making life more affordable. And not what they promised.”

She also emphasized that “the White House belongs to the people,” accusing the Trump administration of abandoning America's core democratic values. “Some people are describing what’s been happening in recent months as absolute chaos,” she added, pointing to rising tariffs that she said were “clearly inviting a recession.”

Backstage Dance with TikTok Star Goes Viral

While Harris’s speech made political waves, it was a backstage video that captured the public’s imagination online. The clip shows Harris dancing with TikTok creator Kenneth Walden, known as @2rawtooreal, to the viral hit “Boots on the Ground” by 803Fresh. The light-hearted exchange happened behind the scenes at the gala, with Walden asking Harris if she had learned the popular line dance. “I have not. Will you teach me?” she responded. The pair danced together, finishing with a high-five.

Dressed in a navy suit, Harris kept in step with Walden as the two swayed to the music. The clip, shared on Instagram and other platforms, quickly went viral—drawing mixed reactions. Some social media users celebrated the video as “fun,” while others criticized it as “cringe,” questioning the optics of the moment so soon after an election defeat.

In the video, Walden also asked Harris how she manages to maintain her sense of “Black joy” while in the public eye. “I feel very blessed. I have an incredible husband, who is here right now,” Harris said, referencing Doug Emhoff. “And an incredible circle of friends, who are family, and family. And I think it’s just important to be with those people who love you and care about you and get you.” The comment also indirectly addressed recent speculation about the state of her marriage.

White House Reacts with Sarcasm and Criticism

Harris’s appearance did not go unnoticed by the current administration. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “We encourage Kamala Harris to continue going out and doing speaking engagements.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller was far more direct, calling Harris’s remarks a reminder of how “blessed” Americans are to have Trump in office instead of her. He went further, stating that if Harris had won, “Biden’s disastrous policies would have been continued” and labeled her involvement in immigration policy during her vice presidency “an eternal stain on the Democrat party.”

Harris has yet to formally announce her next political move. There is growing speculation that she may run for Governor of California, with the election scheduled for June next year. Reports suggest a decision could be revealed by the end of the summer.
