Valentine’s Capture: Nebraska Town Gets A New FM

0

Days after Valentine’s Day, the town of Valentine, Neb., discovered that it is getting a new local voice on the radio dial.

It’s thanks to the acquisition of a Christian Talk and Teaching station presently owned by American Family Association.

What could be in store for this Class A facility?

That’s not yet known, as KKNL-FM 89.3 in Valentine, Neb., is traded from AFA to Community Public Media for $2,500.

AFA runs American Family Radio, branded as “Christian Inspirational and Informative Radio.”

But, that’s likely going to change soon, based on what CPM’s other station, KPVL-FM 89.1 in Postville, Iowa, airs.

KPVL is “The Voice to Build and Serve Community in Northeast Iowa” and was created in response to a diverse immigrant population.

KKNL will likely take a similar approach.

Valentine’s population is just 2,737. However, 5.8% of the residents are Native American.

Valentine is some 525 miles due west of Postville. As such, simulcasting is not likely.
