TL;DR Summary
Taking some measurements but have few questions about the equations
Hello :

I am doing some measurements on an objects( deffrent part of it) , measuring a scalar quantity , dose the outcome is a gradient of that quantity?

Or should I take the gradient of it then start to study the changes in the quantity
I didn't mentioned more details

Your question is completely unclear to me.
Can you please tell us what it is about, what you are doing and what it is you want to achieve?

This is pretty much the same as the OP. Either you don't want to tell what you are actually doing, in a specific way, or you don't know yourself. In both cases it's very difficult for someone else to help. By "specific" I mean what are you measuring and why are you measuring it, as a minimum of information.
