It may be all over for “Game of Thrones” on TV, as the series finale is broadcast on Sunday, but the “Game of Throws” is just starting for the St. Paul Saints.
The Saints announced the name of the 2019 live pig mascot Wednesday during a lunchtime event that introduced the team and featured a game of catch on the steps of St. Paul’s Union Depot.
As the Saints announced: “In the end, one pig defeated all others to claim the throne as the 2019 St. Paul Saints ball pig: Daenerys Hoggaryen.”
For “Game of Thrones” fans, here’s a little hogwash from the Saints about the name:
She is familiar to many as Daenerys Porkborn of House Hoggaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Hamdals and the First Swine, Protector of the Seven Troughs, the Mother of Pigs, the Khalgreasy of the Great Grass Field, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Leashes, but shall be known around CHS Field as Daenerys Hoggaryen. She ascended to the Iron Throne by bludgeoning the BOARatheon Dynasty and then defeating Cersei the SWINESS of the House LOINister. Twas not easy to take down many other formidable opponents as many pigs and hogs wanted to be ruler of the baseballs and roam the fertile grounds of CHS Field. Hoggaryen entered into an alliance with Jon SOW, so much so that Daenerys put her quest for the throne on hold in order to fight in the Great BACON War. Both were helped throughout the quest by HAMwell Tarly (known to some as Ser Piggy, Lady Piggy and Lord of Ham). While many of these four-legged Sus genus’ battled amongst each other, the once thought mythical creature, The West French White Walkers, wreaked havoc on all that got in their way. However, it was Arya PORK that eventually killed off the grand hog of the White Walkers. In the end, Hoggaryen used her flying piglet to take down Cersei LOINister and claim the 2019 Saints ball pig throne…for now
The Saints play their season home opener at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at CHS Field.
