Juliette Eliyahu is looking for a perfect smile..but she thinks conventional braces are unsightly so she's being fitted with a new mouthpiece called the "Aerodentis" system, developed by Israeli company "Dror Orthodesign." The new system is so effective that patients need wear it only as they sleep at night, according to Aerodentis CEO, Tal Lotan. (SOUNDBITE) (English) TAL LOTAN, CEO OF AERODENTIS, SAYING: "Unlike any other treatment that uses constant force, we are using pulsating force. Pulsating force used during the nighttime while the patient sleeps and that way it's the most aesthetic treatment because there is nothing on the patient's teeth all day." This "pulsating force" comes from an inflatable silicon balloon attached to an air pressure element inside a personal mouthpiece fitted to each patient. The balloon pulses with a prescribed level of force, gradually pushing the teeth into the desired position. Besides aesthetics, the company says the system is cleaner and less damaging to the gums than conventional braces. Orthodontist, Dr. Idit Barkana, says she's fan. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DOCTOR IDIT BARKANA, SPECIALIST IN ORTHODONTICS WHO HAS BEEN WORKING WITH AERODENTIS SYSTEM, SAYING: "This is the only system that I can control the amount of force which is being applied to the teeth and it's very important for me as a doctor, as an orthodontist to know the amount of force which is being applied." ..and for her patient, Juliette Eliyahu, the mouthpiece is a big improvement on braces. (SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) JULIETTE ELIYAHU, PATIENT USING AERODENTIS SYSTEM, SAYING: " With this method I can actually smile, eat, keep dental hygiene, there is nothing that bothers me in any way." Currently the system is approved for commercial use in Israel and Europe…but it's not cheap Aerodentis treatment costs between 5 and 8,000 dollars and can last up to 18 months…but for some that's a price worth paying for that perfect smile.
