Book Industry Study Group (BISG) in the US issued a policy statement in December 2011 on how to identify digital products that are intended for distribution to the general public in North America. In a press release in January 2012 the International ISBN Agency (IIA) welcomes BISG's statement and also provides some additional guidance to help supply chain partners make the right decisions on a day to day basis.

En noviembre de 2010 la Agencia Internacional del ISBN hizo públicas un conjunto de recomendaciones y preguntas frecuentes para ayudar a las agencias nacionales del ISBN, los editores, los intermediarios y a cualquier parte interesada en la correcta identificación de las publicaciones digitales, incluidas las aplicaciones electrónicas de lectura (“apps”). La Agencia del ISBN en España ha preparado una traducción de este documento al español.

November 2010: The International ISBN Agency has issued a set of guidelines and FAQs to assist national ISBN agencies, publishers, intermediaries and other interested parties in the appropriate identificaton of digital publications, including "apps".
