 ¹By a dubious interpretation of Art. 148 of the 1946 constitution dealing with presidential resignations, the Supreme Court of Justice "conditionally" accepted on 20 Nov 1949 President Daniel Chanis (s.a.) resignation and swore in Roberto Francisco Chiari Remón (s.a.), his constitutional successor; when the National Assembly reconvened on 21 Nov 1949, Chanis "withdrew" his resignation, declaring that it was coerced, and the Assembly, the body entitled to deal with resignations of the head of state, on 22 Nov 1949 rejected it. The Supreme Court of Justice on 24 Nov 1949 agreed that Chanis indeed continued to hold office.
