- Reviewed in India on 18 February 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI was waiting for this book since the time, Write India Competition was on. I did participated for couple of writers and was highly curious to know how other aspiring writers would have develop the concept.
In the book, you will find those para of prominent writers before top 3 entries and as you connect to each story with your imagination and the para, you will enjoy the experience and wonder how a small para got developed in so many different ways… in one you will find Romance and the other one will have revenge. Some stories will stay with you for long…. And some will depicts your own story….You will find Love, retribution, tribute, solace, spy, drama, dreams and lot more in those 36 stories. It’s thrilling.
I am yet in the process of finishing the book but loved most of the narratives, to name a few –
Prisoners by Dr. Roshan Radhakrishnan (a candid tale of hidden emotions),
Vasudha’s How blue is my Sapphire and I will Climb thousand miles (both the stories stays with you in their unique way, to aspire and inspire you)
Heartfelt love tales by Ramya Vivek – To Live a little. & By Nikhil Samant – Sometimes, Love is not enough.
Nemesis by Tishampati Sen is another tale with twisted climax. & Palwasha's Revenge by Nainesh
Trust, it’s not just a book with short stories it’s an experience in itself. A delight for reader.
Happy Reading!!
- Reviewed in India on 31 May 2018Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI purchased the book while participating in Season 2. The very first story I read mesmerized me. Continuing the book, I found that there was ingenuity aplenty. The book is replete with variegated stories having an eclectic mix of ideas and oodles of ebullience.
At the time when I was hankering for motivation to write, the book came as a godsend. I thank Vinita Dawra Nangia for stoutly executing this pious project of crowd-sourced writing. Similarly, the whole team of Times of India deserves adulation for working with an indomitable spirit. The arduous task of appraising reams of stories and shortlisting the winners done by nation's best-selling authors is equally praiseworthy.
It can be said with certitude that the book is a must-read for those who crave for becoming a writer.
- Reviewed in India on 17 February 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseCuban cigars are the very best cigars on the market. These cigars are distinct because they are made from high quality materials and a lot of attention goes into making of every single cigars.
Similarly TOI rounded up the best selling authors in different genre under one platform and set them the task of creating a book that was distinct and different.
The resultant book like a cuban cigar is distinct and amazing. The authors gave a a small passage and all the different stories that came from that passage is just beyond words.
I picked the book to read Dr. Roshan's story but I ended up enjoying every other story on the book. Some were written so well that the characters looked like they were playing the part in front of my eyes.
Through this venture TOI has rolled out the best cuban cigar for every bookworm to savour. Good luck and please do roll out more cigars....
Congratulations to all the authors who got published. :)
- Reviewed in India on 10 February 2017Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI picked up this collection of short stories primarily because the idea of a crowd-sourced short story initiative is a fantastic initiative. However, I have to admit that some of the judges, admittedly bestselling contemporary IWE authors, are nowhere on my TBR. But then, I did find the premise good enough and boy, am I glad I picked up this collective.
Braveheart by Sutapa Basu, Nemesis by Tishampati Sen, Prisoners by Roshan Radhakrishnan are superb reads. But my absolute favorites are How Blue is my Sapphire and I'll Climb a Thousand Mountains by Vasudha Gulati -- the latter because Vasudha crafts a cliched (meh) passage into a beautiful, heartfelt story. How Blue is my Sapphire, on the other hand, is an amazingly heartbreaking story that stays with you. The book is well worth its price for these gems.
- Reviewed in India on 1 March 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseIts rare that a book on short stories grips my attention till I finish it. I generally read a story here and read a story there. But this collection was as gripping as a novel, mainly due to the wide range of stories that cover myriad spectrum of human emotions, belief and behaviour. My favourite were the series of stories under Blue Sapphire especially the story by Vasudha Chandan Gulati. Her story spoke of courage, faith and hope like no other.
I didn't agree with the rankings of some authors. Definitely not by the author Ravinder Singh. It seemed that some authors were ranking bollywood movie scripts and not short stories. Selections from Amish, Ashwin and Anita Nair were my favourite. Vasudha, Nikhil, Sujatha Rao were my favourite writers and their stories are a must read.
- Reviewed in India on 16 February 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseOut of the three dozen stories, which is a bit of a slog to get through for a short story collection, only about half a dozen are worth reading. In most instances, the story premise is good but the execution is stilted; in others, the premise itself is somewhat outlandish. It's also amazing that writers have been able to craft stories from the largely sloppy and sub-standard prompts, which is some cases are short stories in themselves.
- Reviewed in India on 6 April 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseSome of the stories are quite good, but some are a little far fetched. In Salome cases I thought that language could be a little generic rather so as to create a bigger audience. The over all collection gives a great feeling about the writing profess in the country. Nice initiative by TOI. Congratulations!
- Reviewed in India on 25 July 2018Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI read the book recently and felt inspired to the core by the stories. Fresh ideas, gripping style and lucid narration joined hands to win over my heart. 5 stars for sure...I can read the book again and again.
