San Diego Has Nation’s Second-Largest Millennial Population

San Diego has the second-largest millennial population per capita among the nation’s largest cities, but they are having a harder time finding work, according to an analysis Thursday from JLL Research.

Millennials, ages 18 to 34, make up 27.1 percent of San Diego’s population, compared to 28.2 percent in Austin, the top city on the list. San Diego was followed by Salt Lake City, with 27.1 percent, Norfolk, Virginia, with 26.4 percent, and Oklahoma City, with 25.5 percent.

But while the size of San Diego’s millennial population suggests a strong talent pool, 59 percent of the city’s 853,000 millennials are employed. That’s well below the national average of 67 percent millennial employment.
