Update of the ch-portal for Switzerland
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: Wiki.Melancholie

Description:
The Swiss ch-portal at http://www.wikimedia.org/ch-portal/
needs to be updated urgently. We (als.wikipedia) have been
trying to find someone who can do so for months already! You
can copy the new html file from there easily: http://als.
wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:CH-
Portal&action=raw&ctype=text/css

'Attention': Do not copy and paste the tags <pre> and </pre>
at the top and the bottom ;-)

If you want to check the voting about that: http://de.

WikiProjekt_Schweiz#Auf_ch-portal_fehlt_Schweizerdeutsch.

File are on zwinger:/home/wikipedia/htdocs/wikimedia/ch-portal/

Maybe they should be made available through meta: just like
www.wikipedia.org ?

Wiki.Melancholie wrote:

Yes, this could be a good idea. What is important for me
is, that the ch-portal (and the other portals) can be
changed and updated by new languages for example within
at least some days (if a sysop should be necessary). But
we of the alemannic Wikipedia are trying and waiting for
a update for many months now! Otherwise there should be
a point of reference, where someone can ask for those
changes. Currently nobody seems to feel responsible for
doing so.

And asking in the Wikimedia IRC channel or on the mailing list hasn't worked?

When we asked on the mailing list, the person we thought responsible replied that
it's nice to ask him but that he isn't responsible; we should write to the German
Wikimedia. When you do that, they say that they have forwarded the request,
nothing happens, you write again, and get an angry response saying that that's all
they can do.

Where do these portals come from? :P

Under what circumstances would anyone come across it? Where is it shown?

This file appears to contain a web bug (offsite tracker),
which endangers the privacy of visitors to this page.
Will not add.

Quite the same tracker is used in the nl-
portal, so why not in the ch-portal? Where
is the problem of using an external web
counter?

Questions: If you type in "www.wikipedia.ch"
you are redirected to that portal!

Wiki.Melancholie wrote:

BTW: also if you type in "www.wikipedia.li"

robchur wrote:

I quote Avar, "looks like these trackers need to be killed." If on Wikimedia
servers, then I agree wholeheartedly; and if not, then the affiliation needs to
disappear. We don't LIKE those sorts of things.

wiktionary.org and http://www2.knams.
wikimedia.org, too! Where is the difference?
Why not use an external one (there is stored
the same data, only)?

The tracker was also used in the be portal and has now been removed from be and
nl. The problem with is is loading offsite Javascript.

The unauthorized third-party trackers have been removed from the nl and be portals; thanks for
letting us know about them.

A third-party tracker reveals the network address, browser information, time, and potentially
other sensitive information to a third party who we don't know and don't have any agreement with
about the handling of personally-identifiable information. Further, this tracks passive page
views, not active edits by consenting contributors.

Thanks. It still seems to be broken though; it's missing the background and logo,
and the GFDL logo link seems to go to a 404 page.

Ok, that one seems to work. :)

Applied file to server.

Updated file. I'm not sure what's up with the redirect oddity; it might or might not be
an artifact of the redirect being indirected; I've adjusted it to look more like the
wikipedia.nl redirect, which doesn't suffer from this, but I'm not 100% sure it works.
(May be cache issues too.)

Some changed the swiss portal back to a totally obsolete

[[als:Wikipedia:CH-Portal]]
This address is given by a html comment at the top.

As long as the person who did this doesn't contact
anybody, it would be nice if someone could change the
portal back to the attachment with the ID 1338.

Can you see who that was? If yes, could you ask him why
he/she did this?

Please don't make wild claims about evil people.
We're currently limping along on an old copy of various site
files while recovering servers.

Wiki.Melancholie wrote:

Oh, sorry! But I could not know that.

To understand my first assumption, you have to know,
that it took us many many weeks until the als.Wikipedia
got accepted for beeing shown in this portal and months
until it finally was implemented.

I feel sorry, but I really didn't know that the
recovering of servers could be the reason.
